I was wondering if anyone has seen this movie.
It's an independent film by a New Zealand filmaker.
I warn you that it is very violent and disturbing in it's content but it is also by far the most powerful film I've seen in the last ten years.

Did you know there is a sequel to once were warriors now. The name eludes me at the current moment but if I think of it I'll let you know

Hiya Leprechaun,

The sequel to 'Once Were Warriors' is called " What Becomes of the Broken Hearted "

I had given this post up for dead.
I may give the sequel a look, but I fear it may not interest me.
The first movie didn't seem to be left unended as far as where the family was headed.

I'm pleased someone could think of the name of the sequel as I had forgotten to check it out myself (sometimes life is too busy).

If you can get hold of the book... it's a wonderful, disturbing read.

Hi

I read "Once Were Warriors" a few years ago, and have been desperate to see the film since. A few weeks ago, my hubby and I decided to watch both "Warriors" and "Broken Hearted" together. We were both stunned by how powerfully these films showed the breakdown and building back up of the human spirit. The two films were both beautifully acted (Temuera Morrison who played Jake was excellent in both movies) and wonderfully filmed.

I'd heartily recommend both films and the book(s) (I'm not sure if "Broken Hearted" is a novel) to anyone

Blessings

MeKare

I saw the movie once were warriors and was impressed with the intensity of the movie. I was brought to tears in several paarts of the movie. I wont watch the sequel because it would just be way too intense.

Alan Duff wrote the books. He also initiated the "Books in Homes" scheme which encourages children to read. 1999 saw the one millionth book introduced to homes in New Zealand.
