I've heard a lot of negative responses to the movie. That's one of the reasons I wanted to bring it up here.
I have to say that I enjoyed the movie. I felt so sad for him. He just looked different, but inside, he was a shy, timid little creature who just wanted what everyone wants - love and acceptance. I think the guys at the state home were so cruel to him. And, he even lost his one chance at romance. The girl saw beyond the appearance. She saw him as a human. The scene where he asks if she thinks he's ugly is so touching.
A question - could he always read people's minds, or was it just if he touched them? It seemed that it was only when he was holding her hand that he could feel her thoughts. When he let go, it looked like the bond was broken.
As a result of the movie, I did a little research on albinism. It is interesting. Yet, really, I have to say, again, that people who have this disorder are not really that different from anyone else. They feel, they cry, they laugh,.... They just have something in their appearance that sets them apart. But, then, we all have _something_ that makes us unique.
I'm glad your girls got the chance to see it. What was their opinion?
I like your statement that "His treatment from others altered his own belief system of himself." That statement hits it right on target.
Was also doing a little research on Sean Patrick Flanery out of the Powder makeup. (I'm 32 and single! You can't blame me for looking at the men!) My goodness gracious. There is a picture on one of the websites that you would absolutely not believe. This guy (if the picture is accurate) is so incredibly good looking. The picture looks like he's doing a James Dean (see Chelseabelle - I'm getting Dean into this thread, too!) look. He was also in several of the Indiana Jones series, but I haven't seen that in a long time.
