Okay, people frequenting this board have a standing invitation to post their comments regarding any movie that they've seen recently, be it a stinker or the next Citizen Kane. There have also been posts asking for peoples favorite musicals or favorite actors, etc. If you had to pick one kind of movie that you prefer to see, something that you would most likely be willing to slap down $7.00 to watch, what catagory would it most likely fall into (western, adventure, horror, musical, drama, comedy etc.) In addition, having told us that, what are some of your favorites in that catagory?? I'll even go first (it's the very least I can do!) My favorite would be drama. I especially love a good courtroom scene. Some (but certainly not all) of my favorites are A Time to Kill, Primal Fear, A Few Good Men and The Shawshank Redemption. (I really liked the courtroom scenes in My Cousin Vinny too, but I don't think that would fall into the same catagory;-) Who's gonna go next?? -JM- ------------------ Growing older but not up…

Probably something like a paranormal lovestory. Kinda like Ghosts. It would have to have humor too.

My favorite movies are those with great acting (preferably aided by great direction and cinematograpy).I most enjoy dramas--particularly those that are driven by character rather than by action---movies like A Man For All Seasons, The Dresser, Ordinary People, Crimes And Misdemeaners (a too overlooked Woody Allen gem), and The Remains Of The Day--and, in this category, the British actors reign supreme.Movies that tell a compelling story like Schindler's List or the classic The Bridge On The River Kwai also win my vote. I find most comedies too easily forgetable--except for winners like Dr. Strangelove, Mel Brooks' The Producers, and Moonstruck.I am a very big fan of foreign language films-- movies like To Live (from China), Character(from the Netherlands), Kolya and Burnt By The Sun (from Russia), and Ponelle(from France) offer a real departure from the ordinary moving-going experience. But, alas, since there are no more "Art" theaters, these are mostly available to me on video. I like movies that move me deeply--to shed tears,to laugh till my stomach aches, to feel joy, to feel anger, to feel enlightened by a glimpse into the human soul--that's my idea of a good movie.

I like movies that take an intriguing topic and then present it well, like Good Will Hunting & Armageddon. I also like movies that can evoke feeling and emotion whether they're action, drama or love stories. I really don't get into horror flicks. (Sorry Pinhead) I give a BIG TWO THUMBS UP to Sypher and his choice of Highlander. Although this is also a classic example of when a movie should be left without sequels. Damn Right, Sequels should be banned. There are not many films when a sequel does justice to it's original. Of course there are the exceptions. Indiana Jones Aliens (not 3) Back to the Future. Saying that triology's or more are ok. Star Wars....Godfather... ------------------ Deciphering the World as I see it !!

Chelsea, I agree. The best films are the ones that are discussed all the way home; the one's that you think about until you go to bed that night and then you think about them some more. The one's that you can't seem to get out of your head. Many times in discussing these movies, things will be uncovered that may have been missed while actually watching the movie. After reading your comments, I have to believe that you're an Anthony Hopkins fan. Silence of the Lambs was outstanding as well. -JM- ------------------ Growing older but not up…

You are right JollyMon, I think Anthony Hopkins is a suberb actor--even in something as relatively "lightweight"as Zorro,he was first-rate and gave the movie added class.I also admire Vanessa Redgrave,Jeremy Irons,Albert Finney, Tom Courtney,Daniel Day-Lewis...I could just go on and on about the fine British, Irish, and Australian actors that grace our screens.I wish more American actors approached those standards.

I think my favourite movie would have to be Pulp Fiction. I also like the mafia type movies. Now before you start to think I'm the bloodthirsty type I have to say that I also like a good romance and comedy. The last comedy I think I saw was Austin Powers the spy who shagged me. I like the character but the story line is non-existent. Just another vehicle for Mike Meyers I guess.

I did't know where to post this so I am posting it here. I did see the worst movie post but that would not work for me. I think that the best movie I ever saw, was the one with Al Pachino,(m/s?)and he is the ex-military officer and he was blind. What was the name of this movie. I really loved it. ------------------ Sandalwood's Cosmic Creations: Working with the magic of love....

Scent of a Woman I saw that one as well, good flick. I like Al Pacino as well. He's also in The Insider but I guess that I'll have to spend $7.00 to find out how good that movie is! -JM- ------------------ Growing older but not up…

I'm surprised no one has mentioned pornographic films. What with all that excelllent dialogue and special effects. I'm especially amazed at the myriad of (2) camera angles you usually get. ------------------ If you don't rate, Just overcompensate. At least you'll know you can always go on Ricki Lake.

Thanks for responding JollyMon, I just saw it. That really was a great movie. I walk around the house saying "I'm in the dark here" like he did. of course no one seem to know what I am talking about, but that o.k., I like to keep them guessing. And to you Leprechaun, I really prefer we keep pornography out of this. I had a bad experience with my youngest on the computer when we got it. She got on the address bar and looked up Kandyland. She made the mistake of spelling it with a K. It was interesting having to explain what it was that man was doing with that woman and why. ------------------ Sandalwood's Cosmic Creations: Working with the magic of love....

I love mainly action/adventure/sci-fi movies. They're just great movies to watch. A couple of my favorites in this genre are Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick with Vin Diesel (the first one also has my favorite actor, Cole Hauser, in it).

Pretty much anything with a mystery, unexplained pheomena, or anything adventure/action that you can really get into.
Loose ends are ok, but unsatifying.

I love action, adventure and sci-fi and even romantic comedies, I cannot stand stupid commedies although I have a higher pain threshhold than my dad who refuses to admit that Austin Powers even exists and is convinced that the worst thing that happened to the English sitcom was John Cleese as Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers.
Some of my favourite movies are The Star Wars Trilogy All the Indiana Jones Movies (don't have the box set yet but it's just a matter of time.) I love the Disney animated movies and can't wait for Sleeping Beauty to become available here in SA. Can you get it elsewhere yet? I also love the Ducktales and Gummi Bears cartoons (yes I know they aren't movies!)

I love comedies--especially the ones I think are classic-Animal House, Caddyshack, Blazing Saddles--humor can be a little "adult", but I still love a movie that can just made me howl.

I love comedies too - just not the slap-stick stuff. The ones with subtle humour you have to pay attention to are best.
I love action/mystery movies that keep you guessing and trying to figure out 'who done it', especially if you never guess who.

Make 'em laugh! I like comedies. My favorite is "Young Frankenstein." I also like: "The Big Lebowski" and "Mister Roberts." A movie that you can use quotes from in your everyday life gives me a laugh, and I think everybody can always use another laugh.

It just depends on my mood. I will go through periods of watching different genres. Horror,Suspense,Drama..nearly everything except comedies and musicals. Most comedies are just idiotic these days. Also, documentaries are always a treat. My preference usually depends on what kind of mood that I am in.

I agree with you on comedies. I read somewhere that they are written to appeal to an audience with an average IQ of 70-80.
I favor Horrors myself. I'm really into zombies but I also like films involving some deranged psychopathic killer going on a rampage. My favorite is 'House of 1000 Corpses'.

I like anything that is well-written. I don't always go in for big Hollywood productions. I feel that a lot of those films are over-hyped in an effort to recoup the extravagant expense the film spent to make. I really love indie films for this reason, shoestring budgets and great actors who believe in the project and the material so much that they are often times working for scale just to be a part of the production.

I'm in full agreement with BurgGurl on this ~ I would really rather watch 10 good (or even just better-than-average) indie films than 1 "rock-'em, sock-'em" technology-heavy blockbuster. Not to say there's anything exactly wrong with the latter but, for me, a film has to be character/story-driven first, impressive in its bells and whistles later. I'd be the one at the front of the line to see Sherrybaby or Little Miss Sunshine and might check out the new high-tech special effects fest if I had nothing better to do. Which, I have to add, is a bit of an antithesis to that I'd sell my shirt to see Dreamgirls this year . A hefty dose of razzle-dazzle, that one, but it also has notable heart and some pretty grand music, too. That would be a bounty of riches.
