We had an election on Wednesday for deputies, these are a bit like Members of Parliament, but local to us. The local television company interviewed a couple of the successful candidates. The following is from the Channel Online website - I will post a link but am posting this in case they are a site who don't hold the content for more than a day or two...
Channel Online asked Deputy-elect Pitman what the win meant to her: "Oh God - I can pay my Dad back. I feel very passionate about the job - thats why I'm doing it." Shona Pitman was also asked what she is going to do when she gets in the States - "I don't know, kick [censored]," she said.
The new deputy also explained how she felt about pipping Geoff Southern in the poll votes: "How do I feel, I don't care. He got in that's the main thing and I couldn't imagine Jersey without Geoff Southern."
Geoff Southern last night said he felt ecstatic: "It's been a good result. We've made progress and we'll continue to make progress. There's a lot of work to do over the next few years and this woman (Deputy-elect Pitman) will help me do it."
Channel Online asked whether Deputy Southern was glad to be sharing this moment with Shona Pitman: "Absolutely. She's been really solid all the way through. She's a real professional and she won't take bullying from anybody. Guy de Faye has had a go at her two or three times and she won't take that." Shona Pitman added: "And Frank Walker, and Frank Walker. I held him, I made him go red in the face."
.....
I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to watch the interview, it is rather busy apparently. In the interview one of them, Geoff Southern, was less than gentlemanly about another States Member - as in using 'bad' language.
As for the other person, sheesh, just wanted the job so she can clear her debts, oh boy are we in for some good govenment!

I hope you are more successful than me in opeing the video - I would have like to listen to the broadcasted interview, not bothered about the apology - words are cheap when it come to apologising.
