They will do all the 7 series, as far as I am concerned, Disney signed for all the 7 books, but they are filming the Prince Caspian this year and probably will be released December 2007.

Disney has signed for all 7 Chronicles. They're creating the movies how the books were released:

"The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe"
"Prince Caspian"
"The Voyage of The Dawn Treader"
"The Silver Chair"
"The Horse and His Boy"
"The Magician's Nephew"
"The Last Battle"

According to the book "The Horse and His Boy", Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy were older (Narnian time older), so therefore if they use the same four actor/actresses, it would be right.

Also, "Prince Caspian" was a year real time after "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe", so the Pevensie children being older will be okay, too. The same with "The Voyage of The Dawn Treader".

Am I mistaken but was "The Magician's Nephew" the very first of the chronicles? If so, how come they didn't film that one first?

"The Magiacian's Nephew" was written well after the first one, "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe". Originally, it was I think the fourth book in the series, going back to the origin of Narnia, and explaining some things that might be seen to need explanation, such as the lamppost.
I notice that booksellers are now marketing it as the first book, because it does come first in strict chronological order, but personally, I liked reading it after I was already familiar with Narnia. TLTWATW is the one that just about everybody has read - I think it was a good marketing move to start with that one.

Lewis wrote in a letter to a boy that he didn't much care what order they were read in, but that maybe chronologically was better. He didn't have the series planned out when he started, and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was intended as a solo book.
But I think that if he thought about it more, he might agree that they're better read in the order written. If you look at the style in which they're written and certain passages, it's clear that the reader is not meant to know certain things that are written about in that first book. For example, "And now a very curious thing happened. None of the children knew who Aslan was any more than you do; but the moment the Beaver had spoken these words everyone felt quite different."
And knowing the whole story of how the wardrobe, the lamppost, etc., came to be takes away all the mystery of the first book. I think the same would hold true for the movie versions too. (Haven't seen it yet, by the way--it's hard to get to the theatre with two little kids. )

Anyway, End Of Lecture. (This was a topic of much research for me in an English class, I've got a bunch of "facts" stored in my brain. )

yeah, agree:D
plus if you read the book in the order it was written you can easily understand the time plot. you might not understand some details, but it will lead you into more insgihful theories that will lead you again into reading the next book.:D
Im glad I wasn't fooled by the Narnia web's prank last april fools day, saying Johnny Depp was chosen as Prince Caspian.hahaha

I watched the movie several months ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I remember tearing up too. I didn't finish reading the whole series prior to watching the film, like I planned to, but I did start reading in chronological order starting with The Magician's Nephew. Like most people I had already read TLTWATW.

So since I haven't ventured too far into the series, amd after reading this thread, I've decided to read in publication order now. Seems like it'll be more of an experience with the air of mystery about it.

I'm excited that all 7 books will be filmed! I was expecting this one to be the only one. And even though it will be years and years before all of them are done and released, I'm looking forward to it.

The Chronicles of Narnia TLTWATW was showing just last night! I think the movie was an excellent interpretation of the book. Very well done. Wow, they are making films out of all the books? Well then I have some reading to do! People who know me know I hate to see a movie before I read the book it was based on.

BBC made the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Prince Caspian a back to back film, they combine these two books into one film.
i wonder if Disney will do the same.
And it is said the Prince Caspian will be release Feb or March of 2008?

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian began principal photography on location in Auckland, New Zealand, on Feb. 12, with New Zealand native Andrew Adamson directing.

I have The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on DVD. However, I wish I could have seen it on the silver screen (in a movie theater). I understand that the movie is fantastic. I will watch the my The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe DVD in a couple of days and report back on how much I liked it.

I have read all of the Chronicles of Narnia books when I was a teenager.
