I just thought I should also mention - as a rule, in Quizzyland, once a category has been closed, it more or less automatically becomes also 'restricted'. This means that any quizzes the editors are willing to look at, for reasons such as yours, (that they were started on an allowable date), must meet different and higher standards.
These vary from category to category, but, on the whole, it means that the quiz:
- Must of course meet all basic QL standards, in terms of English usage, spelling, punctuation, etc.
- Must not repeat any questions that are already in online questions. This includes questions that are reverses of each other - "What is Harry's cousin's name?" "What relationship is Dudley to Harry?" - these are essentially the same question, and would be treated as such.
- Interesting info must be substantial, (three or four sentences for every question, at least), well written, and fact-heavy - that is, not a lot of opinion with one fact buried in it.
- Should, if at all possible, cover some aspect of the subject that has not already been done in previous quizzes. That is, for example in the JRR Tolkien subcat, a quiz on random knowledge from the books has almost no chance of going online, whereas one on the footwear of various characters, say, would have a good chance.
When we close a category, it means that we feel that the subject has been squeezed dry. It means that we have been getting a lot of repetitive, and 'bottom of the barrel' submissions. Any quiz, whatever the date it was started on, would have to avoid this, in order to have a chance of being seriously looked at.
I hope this clarifies the matter a bit.
