Have you ever made a grand romantic gesture?

A diamond engagement ring was left in a stranger's unlocked car with an anonymous note.

The man, from central Massachusetts, found the $15,000 (£8,500) piece of jewellery when he returned to his car after work.

The note read, "Merry Christmas. Thank you for leaving your door open. Instead of stealing your car I gave you a present. Hopefully, it will land in the hands of someone you love for my love is gone now. Merry Christmas to you."

I saw that on the news and wondered why someone would do that.

...or she turned him down.

...or perhaps they had planned to marry soon and had a horrible, irreconcilable fight before hand. Anyway you look at it , it's just plain awful.

Sorry, but the whole story sounds nuts to me. To give an engagement ring to a faceless stranger (genderless, too) seems to put no emotional value on the ring at all. Pity him, too, if she changes her mind and decides to say 'yes'...

Agreed. The only thing I can think of is that they are both rich and careless / unbalanced ...$15,000. is 'pocket change' to such people.
