A high for me today - Dad went to see the specialist. They thought the cancer may have spread into the spine etc, but it looks as it hasn't spread so far. So he just keeps taking the painkillers at the moment

Best of luck and best wishes to you and your husband, PF, and to you and your Dad, Jane, and to all of your various friends and family. You have prayers coming your way from Pittsburgh.

This has been a very ambiguous month for me, I guess: one stratospheric high and a low that has left me rather numb.

High: I'm getting married in September to my very favorite person, my best friend and boyfriend of 4 years.

Low: My dad was diagnosed with cancer today. Unclear yet exactly what type but they know that it is malignant. Saith he, "Well, I'm glad you're getting married now, anyway." Saith I, "..."

Your wedding will give him something to look forward to though, which can help him through whatever treatment he chooses.
It's hard when two extremes like that happen so close together - it really sends you on an emotional roller coaster.

That's very true; he mentioned that a couple times last night, separate from the fact that he's glad he's probably going to see my wedding day (barring the intrusion of a crosstown bus and that sort of thing). When we first got engaged, my folks had graciously offered to take care of the bulk of the planning (since the wedding is happening in their town and not ours), and so they have a lot to distract them while they wait for tests to be scheduled, results to be obtained and explained, and so on. They really seem to like the fact that there's a big project to take their mind off other things.

I'm just glad that the biggest two decisions B and I made -- to have the wedding soon, and to have it back home -- both fit in so well with this rather awful development. It sounds like my dad will probably be having both chemo and radio therapy this summer, so I'm glad that he won't have to travel in order to see me wed.

Anyways, thanks all for your prayers and good wishes. It means a lot to me, really -- this honestly is a rollercoaster.

A high (of sorts). I was told by my area manager that I may be going back to my old store...after 3 1/2 months of traffic nightmares. I'd worked up there a couple of times since I've been filling in at this other store. The crew was quite happy to see me, and another shift manager told me, "At least you know what you are doing." From what I gathered from her, she was not happy to see one other manager leave, nor does she like her replacement. I've not been happy at this other store for about 4-6 weeks now, but I know there are a few people at the other store that I will miss, including one whose attitude is not the nicest. He is always talking about making things more efficient, and him having been a corporate trainer with a different company, he'd know what is and is not efficient. I know there are a couple of customers from my home store I'd like to see again!

Well, look out Canada - my daughter got her driver's license today.
For those who live in Ontario, it's her G2 - the first level of the kind that allows her to drive without a licensed driver in the front seat beside her.

Hello good night...I think. emmmm, it's midnight, I suppose I should be getting to bed! I wanted to stop in to say hi here. I haven't had time to read all the posts but I'm going to.

Wanted to share two things. First, big news here. In two weeks I graduate from my University. Never thought it happen! Well, almost didn't. It's been a loooooong journey...I began school in the 80s the first time. then I took computer training and child care classes. Finally I started school in Wisconin in 2000. So, here I am. May 13,2006 is the date. You're all invited to join my 2- 2 1/2 hours ceremony.

Second is my high of the day. I went to see a play at my school tonight with a good friend. I haven't had a close friend to talk with and do things with for a long time. It was so fun to watch the play and make little comments about it as we watched. I feel blessed with her friendship and feel better about myself these days.

I wanted to say, skunkee, congratuations to your daughter. What is the next level and how many levels are there? There is talk here about changing our drivers license- different steps or who they can drive with.

I wanted to add a thanks here. I have really felt welcomed by everyone. Thank you for making me feel special.

Joy

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation JoyJoyJoy.
A general driver's license is a three step thing here. G1 is a Learner's license, where you must have a licensed driver in the front seat. Then it's a G2, where you can drive by yourself and have only a few restrictions. I believe that this license still has an absolute zero tolerance for alcohol, and there are other rules bout how many unlicensed passengers you can carry at certain times of the night, and stuff like that.
After you've had your G2 for a while, you take another test for your general G. This is mostly a highway test, and you have to report how many hours you have practiced on highways, and sign this.
To be a co-driver with a learning driver, you have to have had your G for at least 4 years.
There are specialty levels after this, but most people never get them.

It's been an exciting weekend.
Yesterday afternoon my husband waved a suitcase at me and told me to get packed. He took me to Toronto for the weekend, and there were a dozen red roses waiting in our hotel room.
We went to see the staged production of 'Lord of the Rings' and that was quite impressive.
It was a lovely surprise.

I have wonderful news...of sorts. I just recieved the first email in days from my husband, who is stationed in Afghanistan. There has been a helicopter crash in which all ten on board perished. According to the report the incident occured in the same place where my husband's position is. I had been on the verge of a nervous-breakdown since learning of this days ago but today I recieved my first email from him and he is alive. I can breathe again. Normally I wouldn't discuss this with anyone but it's the best news I've had. Ever.

The terrible thing is that there are still ten good men lost, and they are all from here. Names and units have yet to be released but they are all soldiers from Fort Drum, New York. I am sending out my prayers to these families and hope that you all will do the same. It is a horrible thing to lose a family member but to lose 10 at once is unbearable.

That much be such a relief BurgGurl, probably one of the best e-mails you'd ever get. But thinking of the families who weren't so lucky to revieve a email.

You are right, I am not immune to that either. I am still very saddened by this news and holding my breath for the list of names that will soon be released. It's a loss for our "extended family" and I will do what I can to lend support for them. It's what our jobs as Army wives are, to be strong for own families, our husband's families, and for our husbands. We unite together so that we can uphold those who fall. It's a terrible time even with the good news. While writing this I got a call from him, which makes my morning even brighter.

Thanks again Jane, Ktstew & CinnamOn. As I said earlier, I wouldn't normally bring it up but in this instance I had to share. Now I can return to my mundane tasks with a smile on my face; it really puts things in perspective~
