If anyone is familiar with this wonderful mini-opera by Gian Carlo Menotti, I am wondering if it is possible to obtain videos of either the 1951 or 1963 versions made for TV. There is a version made in 1978 starring Teresa Stratis that is on video, but I am not crazy about it. Any ideas? Thanks.

You may want to try going through an online video specialist. Does Amazon.com do hard-to-find videos? Also look for Barnes & Noble and/or Borders online. They may be able to do a rare search for you. I know they do rare book searches, they may also do a rare video search. You may get lucky and they'll have one stashed in one of their warehouses.

I found a copy of Samuel Barber's "Vanessa" after searching for 2 years. Now I occassionaly see them on a shelf. It's frustrating.

oh! If you find a copy of Menotti's "The Medium", please let me know. I'd love to get my hands on one. CD or video would be great.

What a wonderful ... operetta?...I guess would be the correct term. My particular favorite is, "This is my box, this is my box, I never travel without my box. ... Licorice! Licorice! Black, sweet, licorice!" LOL at myself! We were "made" to watch this in 7th grade and I loved it!! Have never seen it since, but the song stays with me - even 16 years later!

I know just how you feel, LindaK29. The whole thing has become a very special part of my Christmas "tradition".

Thanks, Silver Moonsong, for those leads. I'll see if they "lead to anything!"
