There must be a "-phobia" word for fear of the future but i can't find it. Anyone happen to know? Long time no post. There used to be a forum for bits of trivia we were trying to find out, i think. I was a regular like 7 years ago anyway Hope this forum is the right one now.

Apeirophobia -- fear of infinity Chronophobia -- discomfort concerning time Gerascophobia -- fear of growing old
Not the future per se but the nearest that I could find.
Yes this is the forum you mentioned, it has changed its name but is the same one, combined with others.
The alternative is to ask in AFT (Ask FunTrivia) which is on the other part of the site and requires a separate registration, the same one as for quizzes.
I can certainly remember you but it wasn't so long ago, you last posted on Wed Jan 08 2003, and before that in 2000.

To follow on from Sue: Thanatophobia - fear of death Neophobia - fear of new things Cainophobia or Cainotophobia- Fear of newness, novelty Cenophobia or Centophobia- Fear of new things or ideas. Macrophobia- Fear of long waits. Metathesiophobia- Fear of changes. Prosophobia- Fear of progress Tropophobia- Fear of moving or making changes From what I've (not) found, the specific term doesn't exist - maybe you should coin it? I think the term 'future shock' is usually used to express this fear.

I have a question. It is one that I have to deal with everyday at the gym. Fear of public restrooms, especially showers / bathstalls. I have looked everywhere but cannot find a name.

There's urophobia, but that's when you can't 'go' (especially in public 'restrooms'). I also found this generic "When a person has a persistent, irrational fear of an object or situation and a strong urge to avoid that object or situation, he has a "simple phobia" -- an inappropriately intense reaction triggered by a single stimulus." Also in the close but no cigar category: Places, certain- Topophobia Bacteria- Bacteriophobia. Bathing or washing - Ablutophobia Contamination, dirt or infection- Molysmophobia or Molysomophobia. Dampness, moisture or liquids- Hygrophobia. Filth or dirt- Rhypophobia Germs- Verminophobia. Liquids, dampness or moisture- Hygrophobia Mirrors or seeing oneself in a mirror- Eisoptrophobia Running water- Potamophobia. Undressing in front of someone- Dishabillophobia. Gymnophobia, Nudophobia - Fear of nudity [that one even has the word 'gym' in it!] You've probably already seen all these, but I love looking at this stuff! Though it does rather open one up hypochondriacal self-diagnosis, being highly suggestible doesn't help. But how about this highly topical one: Ortographobia - Fear of spelling mistakes Oh, and one for colliwobbles: Phobophobiaphobia - Fear of fear of phobias

My "favorite" fear is the one Charlie Brown has: Panophobia, Pantophobia - Fear of everything. Could anyone actually have that and survive...?
