I watched two different shows today that had people eating grubs. (I really have to find the remote control) These presenters had gone off to exotic locales and were trying the local food which included some kind of grubs. Both held them out at arms length and bent forward to reach it .. like that would make any difference ... put it in the mouth, jumped about a bit and said how gross it was. Why does every presenter have to do this? I want one that's going to stand there and say "yah, right, like I'm eating THAT."

SO then I got to thinking about other presenters and the hurricanes last year. When the major one after Katrina was coming and all the stations had their reporters in the field to bring us up to date coverage. There was one bloke in a stairwell atop a building who every time the show would cross to him he'd walk outside, brace himself against the galeforce winds, decorative trees flapping against the ground behind him, shout into the microphone about how windy it was. Well, duh, it's a hurricane! We could have seen that with you inside. There was also one who was sheltering under a shop awning and would go out and hang onto a lamp post to give us the idea that the wind had picked up a tad in case you hadn't worked out it was a hurricane.

Any others?

It really annoys me when a reporter is interviewing a person that has just had their family wiped out by an accident/shooting/hurricane, and the first thing they ask is...

"How do you feel?"

It has to be the stupidest and most callous thing that they can do!

I haven't got a great deal of respect for journalism of any sort, mostly because of what ozzz has said - the way they feel they have the right to intrude on people in their time of pain and grief.
I remember reading a magazine in some waiting room once, this would have been a few years ago, but it has stuck with me since. Anyway there was an article showcasing the prize-winning pictures from photojournalists. The one that won first prize was titled 'Babysitter Plunges to her Death' (or something like that).
There was a fire in an apartment building, and some poor 13 year old babysitter had tossed the 2 kids she was minding out to the waiting firefighters, who caught them in the net, and then the poor girl jumped and apparently missed. The photo caught her mid air as she was plunging down, and the look on her face was heart-breaking.
And this picture won first prize. Quite honestly, I find that kind of rubber-necking disgusting.

I heartily agree. I am just waiting for the day when an interviewee turns to them and says "How do you think I feel, you stupid git?"

I'm sure that's already happened, but of course they wouldn't show it.

Yes, I am sure you are right. Pity, I've love to see it!
