Do you eat a lot of t.v. dinners Copago?
I don`t own one but would like a fridge small enough to fit in a cupboard so I can stick one in my computer room, I know those can be found and will get around to buying one soon, I hope.

Never have really worked out what TV dinners actually are Does just frozen lasagne count or does it have to be a full on meat and three veg meal? I'd never leave the computer if I had a fridge, especially one with a tv in it, near the computer.

When I first saw these advertised I thought they were a joke - a special effect. Aren't they?

Call me a thicko if you wish but surely if you have a fridge with a tellie in it, how do you watch the tellie without the food spoiling? If the tellie is in he fridge you would need to leave the door open to watch it.

Sue, here is a link for a large fridge with an LCD television monitor. They are all the rage here in the states. Fridge with television They have the fridges in all different sizes in the states. The mini ones with the LCD's are much more expensive here than the full size fridges. -------------- Agnes (JTJ)

Sorry but I think it's just plain silly. Why would you want to give up storage room in your fridge? Besides which, who needs that kind of distraction when working with sharp knives or a hot stove?

I used to have a television in my kitchen but rarely used it except if the 'buzzer' went when I was in the middle of watching something which I didn't want to miss, I could at least listen while I attended to the food. Now I just can't be bothered, it just took up room on the work top.
I don't know about TV dinners either, I normally eat my evening meal from a tray on my lap in front of the television so does that make it a tv dinner?

Not sure about elsewhere, but here TV dinners are very popular. They come frozen and are available in the supermarkets. Here is a photo of what one of our frozen TV dinners look like. They come in all different varities of meat, veggies, potatoes and a dessert. When I was little they used to have to be cooked in the oven, but now most, if not all, can be microwaved. It is has been so long since I actually had a frozen TV dinner, as I do all the cooking for me, my mom and my sister. However, what I make for dinner they both bring into the living room and eat in front of the television...so I guess that is a TV dinner as well. -------- Agnes (JTJ)

Ah a product by another name, I think we call them 'ready meals' or something like that. As you can probably realise, I have never tried them, they seem overpriced and I prefer to cook my own food even if it is cold meat and chips - I have lots of leftover beef from the weekend.

The thing I hate worst about the TV Fridges is the commercials. Here, it shows a family all wandering around the kitchen, silent and intent on the television screen in the fridge door, each getting together their own meal and eating at counters or wandering back out of the room... And the message is something like silence is good or some other such rot. And next up in the commercial lineup is a public service announcement with some celebrity endorsing families gathering around the dinner table for food and talk and goog memories.
Like many other commercials which appeal to the busy working-parents set, (like commercials for cars with DVD players, for instance) they seem to suggest that everyone would really be happier if no one in the family ever had to talk to anyone else. Meanwhile, most of the people I know who own fridges (or cars) with TV's in them, are also the ones complaining about the decline of family values. Too which I can only say, perhaps if TV didn't rule your family's life, and perhaps if you actually conversed with your family (about something other than TV) you might not be a major contributor to that decline. It's not me, raising my child without religion that's really the problem, as far as I'm concerned.

I have a TV on top of my fridge on a turntable, so I can turn it towards the dining room, or the kitchen. I watch TV news in the morning while I eat breakfast in the dining room and also at night while I prepare dinner in the kitchen.

Eh, I don't have a problem with a TV in the kitchen. We had one on the counter when I was a teenager. We also had one of those big front-rooms that was a living room and dining room, and the only thing separating that from the kitchen was the counter, so the TV served the other room as well. Like I said, the part that bothers me is the implication that families are better off if they've got something to distract them from each other. And that's the key selling point in the commercials here in the states. If I don't like the advertising, I don't buy the products. (That's why I don't shop at Old Navy, too.)
Although the idea of a TV Fridge (or a fridge TV) seems a little over-the-top to me, it is probably quite practical and space-saving. But the commercials these days that so obviously play down the importance of family for the sake of products is what really bothers me. (Like the car commercial a while back where the dad refused to put the "my daughter is an honor student" bumper sticker on his new car.) I hate them. Hate is a strong word, but it's true. And it makes me wonder how people can blame violent video games for the erosion of family values, and at the same time get taken in by advertising that is permeated with such destructive force. People don't think that advertising can have that much effect? It's MEANT to have effect. It's whole purpose is to make you agree with it. And it is deftly designed to accomplish that. It freaks me out.
The message of the commercials for the LG fridge TV quite literaly make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. And the thought that that message appeals to people, makes them want to buy that product, is even more dire.
