For reviving the sci-fi movie genre, I'm going to give the nod to Star Wars. It was not the best sci-fi movie ever made, but it made so much money that the movie studios were "inspired" to invest in other such projects.

These won't qualify for "Movie(s) of the Century" for anyone but me. But I'd like to make a case for them being "Movies FOR the Century": The Magnificent Seven The Great Escape Dances With Wolves My Diner With Andre The other movies that haven't been listed (so far) that could qualify might be, Ben Her, The Ten Commandments or Sparticus

Not that this is going to surprise any of you in the least, but I most definitely, most sincerely, most definitively agree with Fritztino's choice.

I'd have to say either "Gone With The Wind" or "Wizard Of Oz"

Sunset Boulevard, the ultimate movie about movies and movie stardom. Double Indemnity, starring Barbara Stanwyck as the definitive femme fatale, and Fred MacMurray as the definitive sucker for a pretty girl. Touch of Evil, for being the most stylishly shot movie ever. Sweet Smell of Success, the ultimate movie about maliciousness. City Lights, because it's so sweet.

They were all great movies, so there will never be a "greatest."

A recent poll by www.go.com rated "The Wizard of Oz" as the greatest movie of the century.

You guys list a few "old" movies. I haven't seen that many of them, maybe you can tell me how they were different from the ones of the 70's and later. Does black & white give a movie a special something that colour doesn't? Are "older" actors better? how?

I love James Stewart and "Harvey", "Sunset Boulv.", "All About Eve", "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and any musical up to the 50s. (I'll make an exception for "The Sound of Music" - it's so bad it's great!)

Oh, love your list, xboyfriendx. Thiv, I don't know what it is about old movies, they just have so much style and class. I'll think about it when I wake up.

There are so many likely candidates, but I'll have to go with Star Wars. My son and I couldn't wait to see the original together when it first came out, and we just had to go to The Phantom Menace last summer.(He'll turn 30 this year)There's not too many movies that have woven that kind of spell.
