Every day we get new members joining our forums, but most don't post, ever. Why? How can we tempt you to join in with us?
Yes, we ask that you check out the guidelines which are posted at the top of some of the forums (most apply to all the forums), we try to maintain the forums to attract 'mature' people (meaning old enough to vote!) rather than young teens but that doesn't mean to say all posts need to be of a serious nature, just no chatspeak and to make the posts easy to read by people of all ages and nationalities.
Are you afraid to post? Do you think that your ideas of a topic might not appeal? Yes, we have all posted a topic which gets no response, it IS disheartening, but don't give up. Do you not have any ideas yet for new threads? Why not look back at some of the old theads, say from 3 or 4 years ago. Please don't bring up old threads though, just start a new one perhaps by saying that you got the idea from an old thread - we don't really want anyone to say "We have done that", yes we might have BUT most newer members will not and many of the people in the original thread won't be here now. If you just add to an old thread people will look at it and might think "Oh, I was going to say that but don't want to just agree with Fred".
So come on folks, these are your forums, you are our members whether you joined six years ago or six minutes ago (but with the latter, please check out those guidelines before you plough in! ).
And you newbies, please pop into the Welcome Center and say hello to us, let us say hello to you. Just avoid telling us personal details such as ages especially if you are a bit younger than most of us. As for the older members, you can drop buy the Welcome Center too to say hello to our newer members - many of you do and that is great.
As you will see from some threads, most of the members here are really fantastic people, and they care about other members, they will become your friends if you will let them.
As for those of you who are out there reading the threads but not joining us, don't be shy, register then come on in, the water is great.
Welcome to you all!

Hear hear! Always great to hear from "new" (and old) people. And remember, we were all new once (some of us not all that long ago!) And I second what Sue said about posting a thread which gets no replies. This happens to me all the time ( !), but it doesn't necessarily mean people aren't interested. Sometimes you've just said all there is to say (or people aren't interested ...but hey, so what? Boring if we all thought and felt the same way...)

You bet, Wipa. Great to have you along!
Just as Ing pointed out, there are lots of reasons a new topic might not get replies. Occasionally I see a topic I find interesting, but may lack time right then to respond in a thoughtful way. Some subject matter might be too unusual for some to know how to respond to, like crop circles or bigfoot sightings. Sometimes I see a topic, but need time to think over my reply, or possibly do a little research. At times the subject is one that prompts an immediate emotional reaction in me, and I let it go, if it's something I have a very strong opinion about. No matter which way I phrase it - my reaction will come out sounding too harsh for friendly discussion. At those times I decide to leave the discussion for somebody a little more gifted in diplomacy than I am!
In the year I have been at Fun Trivia, I have been treated well by all but a few, and that says a lot about this place. It's a pretty 'live and let live ' kind of setting - one where I believe most earnest posters can feel comfortable.

I believe you were given very good , valid reasons for these. What part of "it was to keep you safe" don't you get?

Rest assured you're not being singled out about the pictures/age rule. After just 12 posts, most of which have been about age and photos, maybe you just need to give yourself a little more time to check out the place. And if you so insist about it, stick your photo in your avatar! And, to be honest, why sharing your age is so urgent is a bit puzzling, at least to me. I've been knocking around here for a while and have known many people quite well for 5 years now and don't know how old 99% of them are. I reckon that a gentleman never asks. And a lady rarely [if ever] is too thrilled to tell.

Never mind, quizchick. Your age is now crystal clear. No need or fret about anything else about blurting it out.

The reason I don't "check out" the place more, is that I have many other forums to post in. Forums which I love, where a combo of 50? to 12 year olds, unite as a community and talk about life and TSO. Maybe you should take some advice from that forum...You could use some good advice.
Well, nobody is forcing you to stay around here. But since all you seem to have done since you got here is complain, the suggestion to check out the rest of the place made sense.
We ARE a community where people from all ages talk about things (I have no idea what TSO is, by the way), we just don't want people - and especially minors - to spell out their age in public. So thanks, but no thanks. We don't need advice, we're fine as we are.

I believe, Erin, that it would be best if you heeded the advice given by several members, as well as the mods. Younger people are usually targeted by "weirdos," no matter where you live. We are not telling you this to waste web space, we are informing you of the dangers that are out there and trying to keep you safe. I know what I was like at your age, and it's commonplace to get a "whatever" type of response, but safety is the most important thing, and I can assure you that no one (myself included) wants to put your safety in jeopardy. I've had mine taken away once, and you're never the same afterwards.

I'm not sure I understand why you would join an existing Forum, which has worked very well for a number of years, criticise and complain about everything and then whine that you haven't been made to feel very welcome. Do you think perhaps that your less than friendly approach has had something to do with your welcome? You have made fun of us for our attitudes about revealing too much personal information (I particularly enjoyed your picture of your house with the invitation for stalkers to come and find you) and recently baited Sue with your 'what would happen if I did post a picture?'. Now you suggest we could take some advice from you on how to run the Forum. As many of my friends here have said, there is a place for you here if you want to try to fit in, but if you think we're going to change to accomodate your beliefs about what it should be like, perhaps this isn't the best place for you.

I'm perfectly relaxed, I think others just might need to relax themselves...Let's see, 7 posts about my safety since I last looked about 14 hours ago...Don't you think that's enough? Although I seem quite stupid, I'm not THAT stupid.
That picture i drew, I posted as a joke..I then posted it on another forum...and the thought it was vvery funny, the TSO (the sims online) rep even PMed me saying she sent that link to friends. Trust me, that was NOT my house...
What can I say? Have fun posting in your little "safe" enviroment guys...
I was willing to be friendly when I joined, I am a very friendly person. But you all just jumped on me like posting my age was such an un-godly thing to do. How would you react if you were "welcomed" by people telling you "No you shouldn't post your age, and your name" 100 times??

I hope that you're not counting my post as being one of the 7 about your safety, because it wasn't...it was about your attitude. You only seem to remember what other people have said to you and not the things that you have said to them to provoke their responses. People didn't 'jump all over you' about your age until you started arguing the point. You were politely asked not to mention it, and you took issue with that. Other teenagers who have been asked the same thing have not made a huge issue out of it, the way you have. And while the picture may have been funny to people on another site, when you looked at it within the context of the whole discussion that was going on, it wasn't very funny here.

Maybe I am missing the point, but if people are trying to help someone out in a friendly manner, why would it be taken as a hostile attack? Why not try looking at it from a different angle, and acknowledge that some of us around here are sharing what we have learned from being around here for a while Try moving on to posting about other things. Give people a chance to see what you are interested in. I belong to other forums, and each one has different rules about what is allowed and what isn't. The way I see it, it is like anywhere you might go in 'real' life, each place is going to have a slightly different set of rules. On a lighter note.. Welcome to FT. I look forward to seeing you around the forums.
