Phillip Seymour Hoffman is the biggest certainty to win that I can recall. If I had any money at all, i'd put it where my mouth is.

Of the films nominated for best picture that I've seen, the only one I thought was kind-of worthy was 'Munich'. 'Crash' was too preachy and simplistic; 'Brokeback Mountain' was uninspired; and 'Good Night and Good Luck' was entertaining cinematic fluff. I haven't seen Capote though.

I recall last year as being something slightly more appealing than misogynistically irksome because of inclusions like The Incredibles, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Before Sunset. This year, aside from the animated awards (ooh, that was a tough decision), everything's back to normal, normal being dutifully pedestrian with absolutely no surprises. What's said is said, of course - I'll just pretend I saw Kung Fu Hustle, Cache, and others.

MSNBC and Zogby is doing a poll about movie viewing and watching the Oscars. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11618750/

Has anyone seen The Constant Gardener. Rachel Weisz was amazing in this film. As for Crash,Don Cheadle is becoming one of my favorite actors.

Hmmm. I heard Friday that Crash has picked up startling momentum (while Brokeback's momentum is waning). This based on a California poll - which is where the majority of voters are centered - and it boiled down to essentially a tie. Yay! Maybe there'll be a surprise after all! It's been so bloody predictable this year.
*Haven't seen The Constant Gardener yet. Or even heard too much about it...but Weisz's likely win will get it into more theaters which will help those of us in less-than-populous areas...*

I think The Constant Gardener is already on DVD. They won't put it back into theatres after that, will they?

Think that Crash is one of the best films I have seen in a long time - enthralling and superbly acted - deserves an Oscar, but doubt it will beat Brokeback Mountain - totally overhyped and needed subtitles for us Brits please!! mumble mumble for the first hour - the second half did improve somewhat. Really a bit boring - sorry folks! Absolutely loved Walk the Line and if anything or anybody deserves an Oscar it is this film...excellent. Constant Gardener is a good film, but not exceptional.. possibly best supporting actress for our Rachel. Munich was ok, but very rambling and the continuity terrible - some of the dialogue was very 2005! Rambling and all over the place. Good concept, badly made. Best Actor I agree should go for Capote.

I really liked Walk the Line too and I hope Reese Witherspoon wins. As for the best actor category, if Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn't win then that will be a big surprise.
Movie critic Roger Ebert is saying that Amy Adams will most probably win in the best supporting actress category for the movie Junebug, and he's almost always right. I always like seeing if he got his predictions right, he's very good at it.

Wow. (Note to self: can't curse on this site).
Crash wins Best Picture? Crash?
The world as we know it has come to an end.

Jack Nicholson must have been kidding, right? Jack's a kidder - it must be that !? Wow! Sure ended the show with a bang, I'll say. I'm actually sorta glad it went that way if for nothing else than to rattle the bones of us watching. Not that THAT'S much of a reason to win an Oscar...

Well done all winners - commonsense prevailing for a change and really excellent films taking top honours.
If you have not already seen Crash you ought - it is a cracking film and shows so many issues of racism throughout today's society.

Crash sounds like a movie I'd really like. I enjoy those ensemble films and the theme sounds very inviting. To me, anyway. I also like a movie that is written well and it apparently is that. I'm still surprised, however, that it pulled that upset. Not disappointed, Just surprised.
I gotta say, too, that I was just thrilled that the stuffy old Academy gave Best Song to that pimp tune from Hustle & Flow. It really WAS the best song of the lot.

'Crash' is an absolutely amazing movie, and I whooped with delight when I heard it won. What I can't believe is the song that won. 'It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp'...I mean come on people. A song that repeats the same lines and same music over and over won an Oscar?

Yeah Canada! I am not sure Paul Haggis is still living here but he sure was very prolific when he did.He wrote and produced one of my favorite shows called DUE SOUTH! I was thriled that Reesse Witherspoon won. I was also glad to see George Clooney win. I think the Best Song had to be a joke? They awarded a Profanity laced song that had to be cleaned up alot I understand before they could even sing it on the show. I am all from progress but that takes the cake. I also wasn't that impressed with Jon Stewart.I know he tried hard but he just wasn't funny. At least all the Gowns were decent this year. Wonder who they will get next year to host it? I hope Billy Crystal agrees to come back. PF

Phillip Seymour Hoffman was born and raised in a suburb of Rochester, so he's been all over the local news. They hold annual Oscar parties here since this was where George Eastman manufactured color Kodak motion picture film (which appears about to be supplanted by digital).

I'm really glad Reese Witherspoon and Philip Seymour Hoffman won. And Crash winning best movie surely was a surprise! I didn't like the 'pimp' song either... Dolly Parton's song was better, in my opinion. And I'm so happy Gustavo Santaolalla won for best original score for Brokeback Mountain! It was great to see our distant country mentioned at the Oscars Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin were great and very funny when presenting Robert Altman's honorary Oscar. The bit at the beginning with former hosts turning down the offer to host again this year was funny too!

I wouldv'e led you wrong on Best Picture, ClaraSue, so my predicting prowess is flawed at best .

robday, instead of making a statement like that, tell us what you think would have been better choices. In that way, maybe the rest of us can learn more about some movies that maybe we haven't seen or heard about. I haven't seen most of the movies that were nominated anyway, and I'm always looking out for a good movie.
