Ah, yes, but does the "drool factor" an American Idol make ? That's probably the question of the year.

Yeah I don't think Chris is going to win. He's talented, but American Idol isn't his contest. But we can hope, right?
And the Queen theme next week. I'm somewhat excited for, but then I'm kind of scared to see what some people are going to do with the songs. Like Bucky I think will do horrible, same goes with Kelly.

Kelly will probably misunderstand the theme and bat her eyes at the judges... errr!!! Drinks on me if she gets the boot this week!

Tonight is Freddie Mercury night on "Idol". Yes, we shudder en masse . Let me offer my predictions, which I'll surely grovel about tomorrow: Ace will likely do well. This is not to mean that he should do well, but he will anyway. He'll hit that mid-tempo stuff that Queen did so ably. And will try to be as charming to watch as Freddie did it. There's a "Blech" in that somewhere. Chris probably will hit the safe zone again - no problem there. Elliott is not up for this one (although if he finds the right "soul"-ish song he could pull that off since Queen had that soul thing going on if you find it right). My bets are on two of them tonight. First and foremost is Taylor. Of the pack he'll find that right 'edge' and will deliver it in a rightly showman-like way. The other is Mandisa. She'll hit the 'soul' of it. Oh, that's right. She won't get the chance to . Is it entirely safe to say that this won't be Pickler or Bucky's evening ahead? I kinda think so. My bet is on that they both sing "This Thing Called Love". Call the paramedics...

You won't get any takers on that bet, gats. I've been running through the Queen catelogue in my head, and that's the song for those who can't sing big.

You're referring to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", aren't you gats? Somebody will do that song. You can take that to the bank.

Ooops. Yeah, I forgot the "Crazy" part . I also forgot to wake up in time to see the show tonight . Somebody? Fill me in, please. Argh. The only show I watch with intent and I sleep through it. *sigh*

Well, Taylor Hicks supplied "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". I figured if Kellie or Bucky didn't do it, he would. Cowell thought it was horrible. He asked Taylor if he was drunk. Strange show. Ace "The Face" ticked Brian May off in rehearsals. He wanted to do his own arrangement of "We Will Rock You". May told him that he wasn't going to do that to his song. His performance was one of the worst.

OK, just watched tonight's "Queen" show. Here's how I think they did: Best: Taylor--not my favorite song, but he put his all into it and he's genuine and has his own style. He sings well and is himself through and through. Second best: A tie among Kellie, Paris, and Chris. I didn't like Chris's song, but he sang and performed well. Paris looked like a rocker baby doll but sang well and had a lot of heart. Kellie looked just a touch too trampy but sang and performed well, too. Third: A tie among Ace, Elliott, and Bucky. Loved Ace's song ("We will rock you"), but Chris should have sung it--Ace is too sugary. Liked Bucky's song (and he seems like a sweet guy) but he needs more pluck or stage presence or something. I love Elliott, but the song was kinda all over the place for me. Last: Katharine. I used to like her very much (and she is beautiful) but she is too plastic lately. Plus I disliked the song and thought she sang it poorly. I don't think Katharine will be voted off, though (and I think she deserves to stay a couple more weeks) so maybe it will be Bucky. Cheers, Robyn

Ace did (or even wanted to try) "We Will Rock You"?? Oh, ye Gods indeed! And Taylor blew his version of "Crazy Little Thing..."? This is not good news. Why on Earth did he pick THAT song, out of all of 'em, to sing? I read somewhere that Pickler did "Bohemian Rhapsody" and did well. Say it ain't so, Joe! I did wake up just briefly and heard Simon tell McPhee that she'd done the best of the night so far. Hmmm. Maybe that wasn't so much of a compliment? Thank you for the update . What did Chris sing, by the way? They won't update those wretched boards for hours at Fox (and I get an entirely testy - not to mention unnecessarily snippy about it - message when I check, anyway).

Ooops again. I was writing when Robyn was posting. Thanks all for the updates! Without even watching last night I think Paris might be a goner. We shall see...

I've always admired Queen as a rock band. For some reason I don't own a lot of their albums. Maybe I need to catch up. I didn't know the song that Chris performed. I also wasn't familiar with the song that Katherine sang. Taylor rehearsed "We Are The Champions" with Queen but switched to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". My wife can't stand Taylor. She thinks that he emulates Ray Charles in a lot of his mannerisms. She thought his performance was awful. I didn't think that he was that bad. Paris was a nice package look-wise, but "The Show Must Go On" wasn't her song. I think Katherine has the looks, and the voice to have a career, post-American Idol. I've made it well known that I'm not a Kellie Pickler fan for several reasons. I was actually surprised at how well she tackled "Bohemian Rhapsody". However the song was "chopped-up" so much, it was hard for me to get a grip on it. Elliot did a pretty good job on "Somebody To Love". What spins me around is when they have to transpose songs into different keys for someone to sing. Freddie Mercury is not an easy singer to cover. It did break up the monotony of what they have been subjected too as far as genres recently. I thought all of the contestants pretty well "flopped" when it came to modern songs a couple of weeks ago. But a lot of that was due to everyone picking bad songs to cover. On the Queen segment, I still had to ask my wife, who Ace really thought he was, telling Brian May and Roger Taylor that he wanted to sing their song his way. That either took a lot of guts, or a total lack of brains. You can't walk in to a room with people of legend, and make idiot suggestions as far as song arrangements. Simon Cowell hasn't had a lot of good to say about Chris in the past few weeks. Cowell wasn't familiar with Live's version of "I Walk The Line". He thought that Chris came up with it on his own. Chris never said where it came from. When he was singing it on the show I had never heard it either. He just let the praise be heaped upon him. Not a good move. Ironically, I told my wife that he sounded a lot like Ed Kowalczyk of Live. She wasn't familiar with Live, and now she wants their greatest hits CD with the song on it. So what's next after Queen? Led Zeppelin? Cole Porter? The Rolling Stones? I'd like to hear a Beatles night, but I guess there's too much litigation involved in that.

I was worried beyond words for this episode. I was for certain that Kelly was going to do horrible, but to my suprise she was the best. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a tough song to sing, and she pulled it off well. If I was a voter, I would have voted for her.

Well, my belly hurts again . OK, I knew that the singer voted out would eventually get that way but I still don't like it. In my mind the order was ALL wrong - but what do I know, really? The bottom three seemed realistic, from what I'm hearing. Certainly I question how Elliott was down there and some others weren't but (and I'm hearing this, too) he doesn't have that "It" factor. Whatever that is. Well, goody though. Next week it's all about Rod Stewart (remind me to never mention these singers in my posts again - God, they show up in short order ) and, yippee, we get to hear Ace again next week. If he warbles "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" this viewer will hurl in a very timely way.

I still don't why Kellie Pickler has such lasting power. That bit about the "community snotrag", made me want to hurl. I figured Bucky would go soon enough, but it's too bad that it wasn't Ace instead. Rod Stewart. Wow. I'm sure it will be based on Rod the crooner instead of Rod the rocker.

I hope Taylor picks "Hot Legs." That would be fun.
I totally agree with all the Kellie bashing... Its a singing competition, not an acting one... and Mandisa can sing her off the stage. The end outcome of all of this is starting to worry me...

From what I gathered from the show, Rod "The Mod", is going to coach the contestants on "The Great American Songbook". So don't hold your breath for "Hot Legs". I will be really surprised if any rock music is involved. Maybe Ace will pick a song and tell Rod Stewart that he wants to sing it his way with his own arrangement.

Yes, Kellie Pickler blew it. Of course when Rod Stewart explained to her that lyrics and words are the same thing, it still made me wonder why she's even in a singing competition. But she'll get more votes, playing the "dumb country girl" bit once again.

Oh, I detest Pickler. I can't stand her game AND, more importantly, am not too fond of her voice either. If the best I got is to remark "Well, I've heard worse" then she needs to get back on those roller skates and get to some serious car hoppin'. Yesterday. But, yep, she'll likely skate through and not get voted out based on that vaudeville routine she conducted after bungling that song so refreshingly. I thought her performance was definitely her ticket home then she got that chance to Cousin Minnie Pearl it up and saved herself. It's just too aggravating for proper description to me.
The show WAS good Tuesday, though. No one else was exactly horrible - most were better than usual. Things still look rocky for Elliott, though, and I really thought Taylor was uncharacteristically forgettable. Chris was really good (he's getting it now what it takes to win this thing and showed it last night). Ace was even watchable (to my surprise). NOT the mafioso surfer outfit but the whole demeanor - but I must be the only one who finds his falsetto his weakest point (of more than several little-bit-less weak ones to begin with). The judges seem to like it when he sounds like puberty is kicking in. For me, and it came as a surprise, the night belonged to Katharine. Perfect song, perfect look, perfect delivery. There is always one performance each season that defines the whole thing. McPhee was no Fantasia doing "Summertime" but she really came as close as I've seen so far. That performance did, in my humble opinion, assure her a spot in the top three. Maybe even top 2. Yeah, maybe even a win. Big maybe, though.
Edited because I typed Ace when I meant Elliott! I should be shot!
