Ok, there are alot of dumb commercials out there, but some of them are just worse than others. The stupidest commercial I have ever seen, is the one with the guy riding the chicken (a man in a chicken suit) with the song "Big Buckin Chicken". It's a fast food chain advertisement. Name some of the dumbest commercials you've seen!

I don't know about choosing only one as the stupidest. I remember in the 80s and early 90s that wine commercials took home the cake for stupidity (as far as I'm concerned). They were all bad!
I remember one where some femme fatale, dressed cabaret style with a phony German accent, danced about a group of people sitting at tables, while singing the virtues of some wine.
The other one gave us a very romantic scene until the woman opened her mouth and said 'Remember that bottle of wine.' To which he replied 'How could I forget?'
I just about choked on that one!

I can't think of just one - but, as for "genres" I find those (ahem) feminine hygiene commercials downright laughable! Granted, I've never indulged in such conversations with a daughter (while wearing beautiful white chiffon on an ornate swing in a country garden with Schubert playing in the background), but I just can't believe that any company would think the public would run out and buy such things after seeing it sold in such a preposterous manner. But, then, I get dashed by toilet tissue commercials too. Quilted? Well, everybody knows THAT'S of worldly importance .

Gatsby722,
I think you might be right on that one! It's just as bad to know whether it's 1 ply or 2 ply toilet tissue! Who cares! As long as it works!

There's a local car dealer by me who's using some evangelical Christian "reverend" to sell cars! Hallelujah!

About eleven years ago I lived in Tennessee and there was a local commercial from the Nashville area promoting an "energy" drink called "Jogging in a Jug" - never saw a more ridiculous sight than a man in overalls and a straw hat drink from his jug and get up and get moving....silly but strange

Two young men get into a car and drive very fast in circles until they get dizzy. They get out and the driver throws the keys to the passenger and says "your turn".

It's the most irresponsible commercial I've ever seen.

A lot of GEICO insurance commercials are funny for the first couple of runs. But then they keep running them for a year. I wish the caveman would have gotten his roast duck with the mango salsa a long time ago.

How about that one for the clothing store "Chico's". It has a strumming, errie guitar background and a woman wearing curtains for clothes. She has very short blonde hair and she's bone skinny and she's staring at the camera in a scary way.

Its on daytime tv to my knowledge and its horrifying. The woman looks like the ghostbusters are about to blast her with their ray guns.

That chicken brings back horrible commercial memories, but now that I look back, it was extremely stupid and quite silly.
I'm starting to dislike the recent McDonalds commercials. They aren't making any sense! Seen the one where the guy starts a joke but doesn't end it? What's up with that?!

That's a bit of a bottomless pit stupidest commercials, we are cursed with many cheap loud and annoying commercials for furniture clearances around here. But I have to give a nod to the many toothbrush commercials, not so much for the commercial but for the absurd gimmicks they add to toothbrushs! A non slip handle? What exactly do they expect us to do, take an eye out by mistake.
My years in the outback also recall a couple of commercials including the one for a tyre centre and second hand clothing store. Where you can dress the family while your tyres are being fitted. And "Meat 1994"and "Meat 1995" videos of the highlights of a country beef market!

I have to agree with the original poster about "Big Buckin' Chicken" Burger King one. That certainly takes the cake for stupidest commercial on right now.

Another one I can't stand is that cereal commercial where the guy can't hear his boss because the crunch from the cereal is too loud. My question is does that guy EVER stop eating? All the boss has to do is wait for him to stop chewing before he fires him. It's annoying.

The cereal guy is probably regretting that, so we can all sleep at night.

Here are a couple of stupid commercial genres from Texas--

Truck commercials. A huge truck plows through a giant mud puddle. Mud sprays everywhere. Yet, somehow, the truck emerges pristine!

Commercials with gratuitous fake guitarists. I play guitar, so it't really obvious (and really annoying) to me when somebody is faking it! Add to that the inordinate number of singers and speakers whose lip movements don't match up with what's being sung or said!

how about the koolaid commercial about single packaging... the kids see his "S.O.S" and he says, "No! It's an S.U.S.- store enough singles!"

THAT WOULD BE "S.E.S."

there is a giant s.u.s. on the sand and everything.

but then again, this is coming from a company that can't spell "cool".

I have to admit there's this one that cracks me up, but is the epitome of stuff I don't really like about this area I live in..Truck worship.

It's the one where there's a brand new pickup truck on the back of a semi and these two guys kind of sniff it and the one guy ends up riding on the back of the semi and looking at that truck and how great it is, (whoo hoo, thought it was a Hemi)...Then they go over a cliff and I think the punchline is 'that ain't good'

Though this makes me laugh, it just exemplifies the American way and bigger trucks that have bigger engines and use more gas.

I think there's nothing wrong with a big old truck if you use it for working, but not for going around making an idiot of yourself.
Most of my family drive pickups and it's very handy to have around, but we use them.

There's apparently another version of this commercial about that Hemi engine.

Vroom vroom.

I believe that Kool-Aid Man actually tells the children that he is "Storin' Up Singles".

Agreed, though... it's a sure indication of poor ad copy when the pitch(er)man's tag line is completely unintelligible. Can I get an "Oh, Yeah"?

I assume, however, now that he's marooned on some remote island I needn't worry that he'll come crashing through the hedge at the kids' next pool party. He does have a terrible history of showing up uninvited.

I just saw the Big Huckin' Chicken for the first time (actually it's been on about four times in the last half hour). I agree that it's a stupid commercial, but like car wrecks, I couldn't look away.

On another note, has anyone seen the new Subway commercials? Jon Lovitz sounds like he's saying "Eat Flesh" in them.

Oh, major shudders. I just thought of one that used to make me crazy (not such a daunting project, perhaps, but this ad managed it pronto). Joe Boxer underwear. For K-mart, I think. It said absolutely nothing at all - just had a rather clumsy looking fellow awkwardly dancing around in a pair of shorts to some annoying music that no self-respecting 8-year-old would listen to. Bad music. A marginal (OK, bad) dancer. Briefs (which apparently make bad dancers watusi to crappy music better?). Huh? And, really, the commercial never addressed any info beyond that. I don't think there were even any spoken words in it. Yikes indeed.

Edited to say that said bad barely dressed dancer was actually famous for a short time - I saw him on a couple of talk shows at the time. Riveting conversationalist, I assure you .

I wonder who they are aiming that one at, Gats...I mean most married women have probably seen such a sight! And most guys would rather watch a bunch of grapes and fruit of the loom characters dance around in underwear.

Now the French had one that beat them all...you know those X ray glasses from the back of comic books? These women are at a street corner and the one has a pair of glasses and the other one says, 'hey let me try..' and she puts them on and you see her eyebrows go up...this guy's carrying something on his shoulder and wearing some fancy brand of briefs.
It was one of the first guy ogling commercials then came the Pepsi or Coke...with the delivery guy coming into the office.

I cannot remember the brand name so it must not have worked!

What about those TV ads of Entzyne male enhancement pills? In every ad you see the guy wearing this unbelievably goofy grin on his face everywhere, especially at the swimming pool where he just LOST his swimming trunks! Isn't that just too tacky? You'd think the grin was a side effect of the pills, though obviously it's from the guy's "Enhancement"!
