About this time every year we seem to have the same debate about if the children and grandchildren should be able to represent their digger family and take part in the ANZAC day marches. Anyone got any views on this?

I don't mind them marching but I sometimes think they outnumber the real diggers a tad. So how about having the actual returned soldier doing the marching with the rellies (excet for the old blokes who need help) marching just behind them still behind the banner of the unit they're representing.

I agree with you, Copago. I do like the fact that children and grandchildren and great grandchildren march to honour the memory of their (departed) relative, but as time goes on, yes, they are going to outnumber the actual veterans. I think whilst we still have them, (the vets) they should have pride of place and be easily recognised, march to the fore of the group. Let the relatives march just behind, as you said, but behind the same banner. I am very pleased that increasing numbers of young people become involved.

It is also good to see increasing numbers of young people making the trek to Gallipoli for the services. It is unfortunate though that many seem to make it into a carnival!

I think the more people who want to march, the better. Bring 'em all on.

I am afraid that as the diggers pass on you will see more children marching. Less wars around and nobody lives forever. Sad but true. I will wear my fathers medals next year, my youngest brother was this year. My father served in all three armed services. I will wear them proudly
