Well if it is as boring and predictable as the book , I shall not bother to see it!

Oh no! The book was great. I'm sure I'll like the book better than the movie (that's what always happens), but with the actors and the director, it'll definitely be a great film. When I found out Paul Bettany was playing Silas, I was so excited. I think he'll do awesome. And although, I didn't picture Tom Hanks as Langdon, I'm sure he'll do good.

ren, you're not alone. I thought the book was just ok, I can't figure out what all the fuss is about. I do think it might play better as a movie, though. Might be worth a dvd rental.

Cannot really understand why some are quick to judge the film already: it is due for worldwide release in May; I will keep my critique until then.
It is a good read - a story. Am sure the film it will be fine with Tom Hanks in the lead role - he rarely does anything unworthy of watching.

I am not being quick to judge the film, I just said if it were half as boring and predictable as the book , I would not be watching it. That's all.

I really did not particularly mean anyone on this forum - just the media in general.

The Da Vinci Code is one of my favourite books. Since the first time I read it, I have often hoped a film would be made of it, and now it has! Yippee!
However, I cannot for the life of me, picture Tom Hanks in the lead role. Do not get me wrong, Hanks is a wonderful actor, but I am having extreme difficulties with him in the film.
When I read the book, my immediate thought as to who the character description sounded like to me, was/is Russell Crowe, but as I said Hanks is by far a much bigger name, so that may be the reason for it.

You are not alone in this, a lot of people I know feel the same way. However, I have what I think may be the reason I am interested in the book and the theory so much. I was raised a Roman Catholic; however, since the age of about 21, I rarely, if ever, pratice my religious faith.
I have never felt "comfortable" with all of the restrictions that have been placed upon the women of the Catholic faith, and I think the book, is just something that called out to be written...especially if it gets the Pontiff and other religious leaders so worked up!
Just my two cents.
Just cannot wait until it opens.

I didn't picture Langdon as being like Tom Hanks either, but they've done pretty well with the rest of the cast, as far as I've seen. The book is overrated and there's an awful lot of fuss over it, but if you just treat it as an escapist novel it's quite entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing the film. If you read the message boards on imdb you'll find that none of it has anything to do with the film or the book, it's just people arguing about Christianity.

"The Da Vinci Code" movie opened in cinemas this week over here and on Friday night we went to see it. My husband's work's social club organised a special screening with food and cheap tickets, so our whole family went.
As emj23 said "if you just treat it as an escapist novel it's quite entertaining". Ditto, if you just treat it as a movie drama, it's a good yarn. It's not Academy-award winning stuff, and I saw a few holes in the continuity (where things were not adequately explained as to the sequence of events), but on the whole I enjoyed it. I thought the casting was good and I liked Tom Hanks in the role of Robert Langdon.

Went to see The Da Vinci Code last night. The theater was packed!
I have to say I was not disappointed with the film...in fact I thoroughly enjoyed it very much!
Most films that are based on novels tend to be weaker than the book, but The Da Vinci Code was explosive and spot on to the book...and Tom Hanks turned in a terrific performance.
Ron Howard only confirmed what I knew all along...that he is great director.
The only bobble for me in the film was that it was too obvious as to who the "Teacher" was...in the book it was not.
Otherwise, great film.

I am confused- did everyone read a different Da Vinci Code to me?
Everywhere I look people say the film is spot on with the book, or really true to the book- I noticed a lot of differences between the two, namely the ending!
Am I the only person who has noticed this?

I have just watched the film...it was okay, but i think that the book was much better. The film had some different storylines to the book, but it was ok. I also think that it is probably better to read the book first so that you can understand the film better.
