Patrick Kennedy(D-RI), son of Senator Edward Kennedy and nephew of Robert and President John F Kennedy, will seek rehab after a bizarre auto accident in Washington, DC, on May 5.
Now get this....after the accident in which Representative Kennedy ran his car into a safety barricade surrounding the Capital at 3 am, police were called. The first words out of his mouth to the officers were that alcohol had nothing to do with the accident. This despite the fact that according to officers, Kennedy was 'staggering' and 'smelled of alcohol'
As if we were all to breathe a collective sigh of relief Kennedy announced that it wasn't alcohol. No...it was prescription medication: Ambien for sleep, phenergan (also a hypnotic)for G I problems. And the reason he was driving was that, because of the mind altering drugs, he thought he was late for a vote in the House of REpresentatives. Like we were supposed to say "PHEW!! That was close! Lucky us!" And then, of course, we had to hear from the Hero of Chappiquidic who announced that he was proud of his son and how rehab was a good idea.
Let's atart with Senator Edward Kennedy. I think it would be a positive step if he showed less pride in his son's addictions and after care and some shame that Patrick has added another stain to his family tree. Edward should have been a role model to his children and a husband to his wife. He's failed miserably at both.
The Kennedys have been called America's royalty. 'Camelot' and all that. I for one am sick of haring about them. Sure there has been tragedy in the Kennedy clan and they have lived their lives in a goldfish bowl. But this means that you are more cognizant of the public eye watching you and part of your daily lives should not include addictions, murders, assault, infidelity and lying.
I wish Representative well. I just don't want to hear about him any more. "or any of his kin. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!"
Sorry...I got carried away by my favorite film, Gone With the Wind.
