Several times this past week I've heard comments in the media about the upcoming date of 6-6-06. One was a BBC report about women worried about giving birth on that date and saying that they would have to name their babies "Damien" or "Regan" if they did. Well, first of all, didn't a noted theologist "discover" that if one translates properly the relevant passages in the Bible, the real "number of the Beast" is 116, not 666? And even if that isn't the case, wasn't there a 6-6-06 LAST century on which masses of devil spawn were not born and Armageddon didn't occur? It's the same kind of ridiculous hype as the Y2K thing. It gets so tiresome.

You're right, gretas, the true 'number of the beast' is 555-8465 or 116 (the 555-8465 is my ex-wife's phone number). That is providing you believe in such things. I don't.

There was also an outcry from the doomsday predictors when, at a specific time and day in May, the time and date will be:

12:34 am 5/6/7 ie: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

we'll all still be here.

Well, I wish they would all be quiet - it's my birthday that day, and I would prefer that it not be ruined by the end of the world, thank you.

I've been reading about this too. To me, it's just silly. I would imagine that if the end of the world were to occur soon, the powers that be would choose a random date and get the jump on us. I mean, really, ending the world on 06/06/06 is just too predictable.

Hey wait, I turn 31 later that month, the world can end any time before that.

LOL Vendome! Personally, I think the Book of Revelation (on which this stuff is based) refers to predicted Battle between Christians and Roman Empire. Some but not all early Christians believed that there this battle would take place either within their lifetimes or very soon afterward i.e in the 100 - 300 AD range...but this battle never took place...since those times various groups used this to predict the "end of the World" hundreds of times....

All references to either the coming of the messiah or the end of the world are deliberately not given a timescale, particularly in the bible.
If we were concerned with the issues happening right now we could do our own little bit to improve the world, and as time only runs forwards no one can really see 5 minutes ahead, let alone hundreds of years! It's very interesting to imagine we know what's happening ahead, but when I read a paper once thinking how typical it was of all the trivial and pointless news they insist on reporting it turned out to be over 30 years old. Things tend to be pretty much as they were and probably will be for a very long time.

especially since that date won't read the same everywhere, i would say it as 12:34am 06/05/07 maybe we'll have our armageddon in june instead! and they just missed 01:23 am 04/05/06

Well, yes, and does the world end 24 times that "day", once for every time zone? Or does it just have to end the once... I mean, you know, GMT, or is there daylight savings time in that time zone? So confusing? Geesh, if they're going to pin down the end of the world to a specific minute, they might go so far as to narrow it down to a specific time zone, you'd think. Should I be looking for the world to end five hours earlier, 12 hour later? What?

Hey its my birthday the day after, dammit!

Isn't Armageddon the name of the place where the final battle will take place rather than the event itself? I'm led to believe it derived its name from one of histories first major battles between some Egyptian guy and his neighbour.

Well if it ends then it will presumably be Australia first, if they are still there then we are ok.

As I said, it will hit Australia first so perhaps we ought to nominate one of our Australian members to post an alert here at Funtrivia if it looks likely to be happening.

"It will come as a thief in the night" says the bible. This means anyone daring to quote a possible date should be sent away before they try and pick your pocket.
Not that I believe in any predictions, with or without an ETA, but as armageddon is a primarily biblical prediction, you need to take what the bible adds about it first rather than our desperate media.

Apparently there was a bit of a party in the Michigan village of Hell on 6/6/06. If you were there, you could get a T-shirt proclaiming “I spent 6/6/6 in Hell.”

The world didn't end on 6/6/6, or 6/6/66, or 6/6/666, and I don't reckon 2006 nor any of the preceeding ---6's count, so the next date to worry about must be 6/6/6666!

Well, I'm wondering, since the 666 from the Bible was apparently a mistranslation, with the actual number being 616, is the world due to end on Friday? Or should it have ended on 6/16/00? Then, we have to consider the 2012 people. This is way too many numbers for me.

I wonder why nobody has suggested in what way the world is supposed to end? Everybody just drops dead, the sun goes nova, or somethng even more mysterious?
By the way, when the prediction was made in Revelations, the concept of AD hadn't been thought of, It wasn't invented until the year we now call 525 AD. Prior to that the Roman dating system was in use.
