Surly a valid prediction would also be capable of predicting a change in the dating system.

I can't remember the details, but I'm sure some boffin reckons that because we have consciousness, this proves that we must survive. The event is probably something like the Gulf stream being turned off, a super volcano or something similar. This sort of thing could well happen and keep those 2012 punters happy.

That theory is behind most of Eastern philosophy. I still can't see the connection, but they claim because we are conscious, whatever happens to our bodies our consciousness is immortal. Such a jump in logic beats me, if anyone can explain I'd be very happy to know the reasoning behind it.

Is it the right date anyhow?
The calendar was changed sometimes in the history, and just think that the Russians have different dates to us. And what about the other religions with a total different calendar? Does anyone know when the world makes the big bang for them?

The ancient Mayan calendar is considered by experts to be really accurate. It ends, though, in 2012. A lot of "New Agers" I know think that is the date the world will end. But not in the big bang blow up kind of way. They think that the "end of the world" will actually be a shift in consciousness that comes about because of some major otherworldly event, like the appearance of aliens or other things I can't even imagine. I don't think they're totally off-base, though. After all, maybe all of those angels in the Bible were actually aliens being described in terms that made sense at the time. Anyone remember Ezekiel's Wheel?
