Well, without a doubt, the high point of my weekend (maybe the whole year?) was that not only did I get to hear Sue sing but I got to have a really wonderful conversation with her, too. Just before her I was on the phone with Australia and soon after with Hong Kong! Folks...it doesn't get better than all that ! My second "high" is that I don't feel a bit older today than I did last month (not that I really expected I would) and, of course, in Gatsbyland sometimes it seems like just getting a birthday is celebrative on its very own. At least worth a well-placed "Whew!", anyway.
No lows, of course. The only thing I can think of is that I probably hogged the conversations yesterday ~ I had so much to say in such limited time . Those poor people hardly got a word in edge-wise, now that I think about it.
I posted a "Thank You" on my blog to everybody for the notes and messages but I'll second it here. Thanks for making the birthday better than good this round. It empowers me a lot just knowing that you all are out there in the world.

Glad you had a great birthday, Gatsby!

My high (and low...in a way) is the fact that my weekend was all spent at work. I put in almost 17 1/2 hours Saturday, then about 16 on Sunday. The high is the overtime pay, but the low is it will drain someone!

My high - I went to work for four hours today, to start training for relief work in the Contact Centre of our government offices. The people are very pleasant and the CC is very new so they are on a learning curve so it is not a case of eveyone being so experienced and me knowing nothing, my past work puts in in good stead. I am yawning like crazy but this is partly down to having not slept too well with the heat.

It is nice to be at home without worrying about going to work, but it is also great to feel useful once more.

I'm so happy for you, Sue! I'd been wondering how your potential employers had felt about your medical history, etc. Very glad it all worked out!

Hmm, I was told that I could work as relief but that they couldn't give me a contract for anything more, just a zero hours contract with no holidays, sickness benefits or pension. Still, it is work. We will have to see how it pans out.

Well done, Sue. Just getting a start is great for now. If one employer can see your worth, another will certainly be waiting around the corner sometime soon with the perfect job for you. Hope it works out well for you.

Low - a company I have been doing business with stole money from me in March 2006. They refuse to give me back the money. I've been going round and round with them since then.

Please PM if you want the company name, and please do not do business with them.

Highlight of the last few days, spending time with my Mum, and Aunts, on a few day trips. That may not sound very much to some, but it is lovely to see different scenery and also to get out a little

My high is great big one - my husband is en route to the U.S. for his R&R as I write. In just over 12 hours from now I will see him for the first time in over 5 months. I can hardly wait!!

What a great high, BurgGurl! I'm so happy for you!

My high: Getting to visit with my husband's children for the next week. They live with their mother and we see them only a couple of times a year. They are teenagers and are loads of fun. Today, my stepdaughter and I went to a beauty salon and had our hair cut and styled. She and I love to do the girly thing together.

A huge high for yesterday - my son-in-law passed an examination, this was third time lucky. If he had failed again he would have had to backtrack and take a previous examination again before progressing. This is the last medical examination he has to take, he can now seek a more senior post. He has been a doctor for a number of years and is a paediatrician, now it is full steam ahead and with luck he will become a consultant within about ten years.

Apart from anything else, it is expensive to take these examinations.

That is great news, BurgGurl! I'm assuming your trip back to the Burg went well and the fish survived without incident?

Congratulate your son-in-law for all of us, Sue!

Hey, he has been a qualified and working doctor for years now, these were post-graduate examinations which are necessary if he wants to progress to a senior position. More to the point, I can say '"My son-in-law the paediatrician".
