Oh dear you really have had a time of it. I am so sorry for everyone whose lives have been touched by these tragedies.

Oh how awful for you BurgGirl. Now it becomes obvious why I seldom post in this thread as my woes seem as nothing compared to your's, and others'.
I am so sorry to hear of your gran's death.
I hope your OM will be home soon. XX

I agree with ren - my life is easy compared to some of you.
You have my deepest sympathies on the death of your grandmother. It is a blessing she went peacefully in her sleep.
I don't know how you soldier's wives do it, but I want you to know how grateful I am to you for your sacrifices and for your husband's service for our country.
I hope you get a good night's rest tonight, and things look bright for you in the morning.

Sounds as if it has been a hard weekend BurgGurl To be worrying about your husband while he is trying to do good, so far away, must be terrifying. We're all here for you, and thinking of you xxx

Well, ditto here. But then what can we expect when one elbow to the face requiring stitches gets no call, and another elbow gets a suspension??? So much for the officiating and the NBA. Very disappointing day.

Hooray! My TV crew called yesterday to book the visit tonight, and they just left after a very successful session. Both the practice of the long session last week and the information I raised from it added to the performance and did actually improve what I had to offer compared to had they turned up the previous date.
And it's only meant to be a few months ahead before it's on, so I won't have to wait a year like the first time. What a relief it is they actually made it.

Several weeks ago I searched high and low for a package of family tree information which was sent to me more that six years ago by someone in New Zealand, it is my maternal grandmother's family, I couldn't find it and thought it waas lost. Today I was having a big throwout of accumulated rubbish and found an envelope, looked in it and voila, 40 pages of family tree dating back to 1723/24! I thought it was gone forever.

I now have to photocopy it to send to various other family members who are researching their/our family.

Good for you Sue! - you are so lucky to have found that. I know what an undertaking that is and to think that someone took the time to put all that together and to have lost that would just hurt. I hope that your family tree is in "full bloom"!

Sigh of relief, I'm sure, Sue. I've lost valuable or precious documents before - they don't always get found before leaving on the accidental garbage truck!

It wasn't in any place that I would have thought to look, I have no idea how it ended up in my 'lumber room'.

Wow. You have a room where you keep lumber? That's amazing. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself.

<---That pretty much sums up Tuesday in Gatsbyland. First I wake up v-e-r-y early and see that FT is on the blink. Daunting start, for sure, but made a little better when I wiggled my way (somehow) onto the new quiz I'm working on and piddled with that for a few hours off and on. Then...

It got to be 9AM and, for the first time in over a week, I found that I needed to go buy cigarettes. There's a back story that I should start with, I reckon: my garage/car is detached from my house, not horribly far but not just a few steps away either. I rarely go out there since I rarely drive and every garage-ish thing I might need I've moved inside over time (I walk poorly and, quite frankly, it is quite hazardous to take a nosedive out there so I just avoid it). We had an Ohio almost-tornado last week and the side door to the garage had blown open. I discovered that sometime the next day. This is important ---> I lurched out there and closed it but before I did I stepped in and made much noise because animals have been known to get in there. I thought that if any critter was in there my hollering would make them rustle a bit and I'd hear it and could prop the door open so they could leave at some point. Not a sound, so I closed it. So yesterday comes and I go to get my car. What do I find in the garage? Four dead kittens ! I immediately felt guilty (if only I'd gone out there on the weekend, etc., since the little guys hadn't been dead too long I couldv'e discovered them). Then I got mad. I'd put those kitties at maybe a month old. Somebody had to have realized they were gone. The door was unlocked so access was there if any search had happened. AND, cats have gotten stuck out there before and the door was locked ~ a quick ring of the doorbell was all it took to remedy the problem. This time no effort was made by anybody anywhere at all .
So, emotional wreck that I was by then, I collected them and even named them (somehow it seemed the right thing to do) and ol' legless Joe over here dug a hole and conducted a funeral. And don't think I didn't rage measurably, by the way - I asked the Higher Power to do something deserved to those beasts who allowed their kittens to die in that horrible way without lifting a finger to save them. I lose a cat? I'd knock (and have done so in the past) on every door in a square mile. Anyway, that was Tuesday.
Sorry that's so long...

Awwww, I'd feel the same way. Sorry for your sad day. Maybe the mommy cat brought her kittens to your garage. She couldn't have got back in. And either the mommy cat was feral or the owners had no idea where their cat had her kittens.

I'm glad you were able to give them a good send off. Life can be so sad at times. You feel for them, that means you are a kind person.

I thought about that but that door was only open for maybe 12 hours. Those kittens were easily a month old and quite mobile (considering that I found them here, there and everywhere on that floor). My guess is that they followed their mother in there and I'm sure weren't born in there. Actually, considering their developmental stage, it's downright impossible! That garage hasn't been open for any length of time for months.

True, I hadn't rememmbered their age. I think they probably did follow their mother. Maybe they were all feral cats.

I am kind of sad about this thread. We used to have people stopping by just to say good morning, good day, etc. It was a place we could laugh and joke. It's been a long time since that happened. I know that we laugh and joke in the chains room and I love that. But that could happen here too! We have a lot of funny people here! And life's too serious.

I hope others will feel comfortable to come to this thread and say hi. Tell how their day is going, what they are feeling. Share highs and lows, even trivial ones. It's about sharing with friends.

My low yesterday was realizing I'd missed telling my landlord that I was moving out Aug. 30th. We have to give two months notice and know I've missed it by a day.

My high was laughing and joking with Santana. We had a lot of fun in the chains last night..errr this morning. LoL

Take great care!
Joy

That's a good point Joy, and I wonder if the blogs have taken much of the diary activity from here, though there's no reason we can't do both.
Well I was at my father's road's now annual barbecue last night and heard some amazing stories about reiki which I learnt 9 years ago and had become a bit uncertain about. She revived my interest and I'll keep seeing what I can use from its potential. I also met a nice woman who wants to try it, and if I'm very lucky may lead to more of a friendship.
I also have 4 hours to see if I end up in the top 4 in general now in the challenge, it's got more players than the rest and very rare to do that well in. I'm currently 2nd but I suspect I'll end up about 7th...

The only low of course was the fiasco in yesterday's world cup against Portugal. I think little more needs to be said about that...

My cousin's wedding went quite well. Her parents got along without any trouble. I am so happy!

satguru, I hadn't thought of that. You are right, we can do both. And as I said, we joke in the chains thread as we post there. The main thing is, I used to enjoy seeing people here: hearing about them and their neck of the woods, so to speak. I hope others will be inclined to join us!

I'm glad you got out and enjoyed yourself and found a potential friendship. That proves my point about life. If we find activities that interests us and get out and enjoy ourselves, we'll find like-minded people.

Dave, I'm glad your cousin's wedding was enjoyable!

And gues what? A plus here too. I called my apt. management office, and the weekend worker/staff told me to bring the letter right away, date it for the 30th and she'd tell them I brought it Friday. How awesome is that?! It's nice when someone will go out of their way to help someone in need!

I think this chain tends to follow the natural inclinations, ups and downs of it's contributors... not every day can be sunshine and roses, but I see a great many little triumphs and personal achievements reported here.

It seems pretty much fine as it is.

It is fine and I wasn't saying it has to be all sunshine and roses. Good night/good day seems to have gone by the wayside in a lot of ways. That is fine too. I like saying hello, how are ya? Just wish others would join me. That is all. Not complaining, rather giving an opinion.

(I'll go back to my little corner of the internet now...)

Joy, sorry I really do not understand what you are saying. Since you started the first Good Night & Good Morning/Hi & Low of Day/Week thread (and this one is the 5th as we close them off after about 300 posts to make it quicker to load) there have been 1,384 posts (not including this one) and they have been viewed 31,456 times. What more do you expect?

The thread is very popular, or it wouldn't have been followed on with numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5. Sometimes the posts are serious, sometime they are light-hearted and joking. Personally I find little point in posting when I have absolutely nothing to say, unless it is to comment on someone else's post. If someone has just posted about something very serious in their life I think it a little tasteless to immediately follow it up with something jokey.

I am sorry that you are disappointed in the thread but it has evolved in such a way that it is a firm favourite with most of our regular members, so presumably they like it the way that it is now.

While we are on statistics for the thread, since you started the first one on 11th May 2004, you have posted 96 times, some of our members have posted in here considerably more than you. ktstew 121; gatsby722 133; janemarple 144 and I have posted 217 times.
