Did anyone watch the American Film Institute's Top 100 Funniest Films of the Last 100 Years on CBS tonight? I only got the last 50 but on June 14th the list will be added to their web site at www.afionline.org. My husband and I agreed with most of their selections and actually have quite a few of the movies on video.
Here's the list I submitted of my top 10 based on the fact that no matter how often I watch each of them I enjoy them immensely.

M*A*S*H
A Fish Called Wanda
Stripes
National Lampoon's Vacation
My Man Godfrey
American Graffiti
Beetlejuice
Beverly Hills Cop
Big
Mister Roberts

I've only seen about 35% of the comedies they mentioned.

TSA1400, you've seen about 35%? Actually, I'd say that that's not bad! How about the rest of you? How many have you seen?

Being a movie fan, and living with a movie NUT (my husband), I counted 72 of the 100 that I know I've seen. We actually have 39 of those movies on video.

Wow! That's a lot clara64. Most of the ones I've seen are the more recent ones and not the classics(classics being the ones from 1969 and older)

I count 44 that I am positive I have seen.
And ya, where was National Lampoons Vacation?
What a classic comedy.
I was watching with my wife, and we tried to guss the top 10.
I did pretty good by guessing
2. Tootsie (1982)
3. Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying About And Love The Bomb (1964)
4. Annie Hall (1977)
5. Duck Soup (1933)
6. Blazing Saddles (1974)
7. M*A*S*H (1970)
10. Airplane! (1980)

Should have had The Graduate. phooey =) I thought it but didn't say it
I guessed the Jerk, since I started watching around #76
And Young Frankenstein I guessed as well, and it should have been in the top 10! So funny that one is! LOL
Spinal Tap, heh what a hoot, glad it made the list so high =)
I love watching those types of shows, just because it is fun to make a game out of guessing the top 5-10.
'course I had to be woken up twice there near the end *chortle*
11 p.m is late for me
oops I am rambling..

I coulda sworn N. L. Vacation was on the list. It isn't, though, is it? I sure would have put that one on there. A great comedy!

I guess I've seen about 90 of the movies on the list (being an "old timer" has its benefits--you've been around that many more years to see movies).

I have a problem with only two movies on the list--Being There, and There's Something About Mary.I'm not sure I'd put them on a list of the best 100 comedies at all--and I certainly would not rank them as highly as they have been placed. The movies below them on the list are far better comedies.

"Being There" is really a one-joke (or one-concept) movie.Once it makes its point, the movie is really rather flat.As far as comedies go, I think it was one of Peter Sellers least funny movies.Dr.Stangelove, on the other hand, was one of his funniest and finest.

There's Something About Mary did have have some very funny moments --the zipper scene is a riot--but this movie is nowhere near as funny as many of the true gems which are ranked way below it.

I would have put National Lampoon's Vacation on the list. It was hilarious and still plays well. People always remember lines from that movie.

Personally, I don't like Woody Allen films (I know that's a minority opinion!) and I certainly wouldn't have rated Annie Hall even in the top 75. I think Mister Roberts should have been rated. Let's see, Henry Fonda, Jack Lemmon, James Cagney, William Powell, well, that does it for me!

I've seen 73 movies on the list. And of the 17 I didn't see, I seen parts of 9 of them.

What happened to The Princess Bride; Support Your Local Sheriff; The Great Race: Start The Revolution Without Me; Operation Madball; What's Up Tigerlilly?; Ferris Bueller's Day Off; Little Big Man; The Stunt Man; just to name a few.
I would've found a spot for all of these on the list.

And, what happened to, "Planes Trains And Automobiles", "10", "The Man Who Came To Dinner" and "Splash"? Those are all much better than some of the films on the list.
