I recently purchased Spyware Doctor and received their invoice telling me they had charged my Visa account, and the amount. Then today, several weeks later I received an almost identical invoice except this time instead of a one year subscription, it was telling me they charged two years and it was for more than double the amount I had paid, in fact more than three times the amount. The email address that it was addressed to wasn't mine although it was to a person at an ISP I also have an acount with at present. There was an attachment which was .exe so I naturally didn't open it but did send an email to the address on my original invoice telling them of the 'error'. I received the following message from them.

Quote:

We regret the inconveniences and worries caused by mails seemingly sent out by element 5. We are aware of spam mails from an unknown source, copying the style of element 5. We want to assure you that element 5 is neither originating nor sending out this spam.

We can deduct from the complaints so far that these mails refer to some bogus "Spyware Doctor - 2-year subscription"
order, #4946911 that you allegedly placed, using a credit card for an amount of 90.39 USD, GBP or other currency.

Also, there may be an attachment included which holds a "Win32/TrojanDownloader.Small.NKY trojan" virus. Please delete the entire mail including the attachment immediately!

We can assure you that these e-mails are spam and were not sent out from our mail servers. Your credit card will not be charged by element 5 with regard to this fake order.

Again, we are sorry about the trouble caused by this spam attack.

Sincerely,

Tabitha
Your element 5 team

Next thing you'll be telling me is that all those "critical updates" and stock offers that I receive in the mail are phoney. I usually ignore all email like that, especially when addressed to my junk mail account. Recently I did receive email from eBay about a credit card expiring but they were smart enough to "not" include any clickable links and actually stated to go logon to eBay to fix it.
