This could easily fit in either Television or Sport, so I will put it here!

It probably doesn't affect some of you but our television is going to be dominated for the next month by silly men running about chasing a ball - yes, the World Cup. It is going to be difficult but I am trying to keep my house a football-free zone. Already it is proving difficult, normal programming is out of the window, it is driving me nuts.

To all you who have a person in the house who insists on watching every possible match, you have my sincere sympathies, I was married to one of those.

Our local newspaper has published a list of pubs which will NOT have football showing, I bet they do a roaring trade.

Assuming that you don't want to watch the footie, what will you be doing instead?

Do you get frustrated at your television schedules going out of the window?

I’ll be doing much the same as I usually do – reading books, surfing the Net, playing records/CDs, and just loafing around. I’ve just got a DAB radio receiver, so I’ll also be able to revisit some of the radio comedy of my youth via BBC7.

I don’t watch a lot of television, so I don’t know whether there’s anything that I’ll miss. From time to time I’ll catch up with the news on teletext, and I may take a quick look at the World Cup scores, and have a little laugh if In-ger-land have lost. It’s not that I’m unpatriotic: it just amuses me to see the depths of gloom into which football supporters are plunged when eleven men don’t kick a ball around quite as well as eleven others. To look at some of them, you’d think they’d been sacked from a million-pound-a-year job and come home to find their house burnt down. I mean, I like to see England win at cricket, but I don’t think it’s the end of the world if they lose.

You should move to Austrlia for a month - we still get all the games but at least they're on at times that normal people should be asleep.

I'd be watching it if we had it here in the States, or at least the good ones.

I actually enjoy soccer as opposed to American sports.

I would like the choice of whether to watch or not. We have a total block on all matches live except the first and last. Unless you go down town to the pubs and clubs, you have had it. I quite like it at times and as I say, would like some choice in the matter.
