Yes, Linda I decided to start a thread on your favorite movie. Who else loves the Wizard of Oz? Who is your favorite character? On a scale from 1-10 how cute do you rate ToTo?

I'll start!

It's really, really hard for me to pick a favorite character. I love each and every one for a reason. Each one has a certain character and charm about them. If pressed, though, I'd have to say the Scarecrow. I really love Ray Bolger. And, his performance of the Scarecrow is wonderful. (Plus, Ray and I share birthdays!)

I adore Toto. He's beyond just cute! However, I have to admit that MY Toto is ever so much sweeter and cuter than even the one in the movie. Mine wakes me up with kitty kisses every morning!

This movie is such a classic, timeless story. Every time I watch it, I see a new facet of the story or something new in the background or whatever. It's always "fresh" to me and a joy to watch.

(Oh, I do have to say that the crows are particularly special to me as well! For those who don't know, I'm playing a crow (as well as a Winkie Guard and a Dorothy Attendant) in the Wizard of Oz next month! "CAW CAW")

Believe it or not, that was completely Terry's doing. But, I have to say that I love it!!! It's always fun to get into the forums and see that flash across my screen.

'Luke I am your forum'
or
'The first rule of forum club is you do not talk about forum club, the second rule of forum club is you do not talk about forum club'
....but I guess The Wizard of Oz intro will do.

Ever since I was little I've had this thing for the Wizard of Oz story. It started with the books, though, so the movie was kind of secondary to me. Although, I think the movie actually improved on the book in some ways, which is unusual for movies!

Favorite character? How can I choose? I can relate to each one of the four heros.

Linda's right, this story is such a classic and has so many wonderful things about it!!

That movie was Psychedelia #1...

The writer, L.Frank Baum, was a degenerate racist, but the movie itself was fun!

Toto was the best character of all!

Hey that dog was the only one to figure out that the Wizard was a fake & unmasked the varmint!

I thought the good witch was too fluffy for my taste
...liked the wicked witch better

Linda did you like it when it they restored it in color or do you think they should've left it in black and white like it was originally?

Since the real thing wasn't black and white, I am glad they put it back like the original movie was. The "sepia" tone of the beginning and ending scenes were never meant to be black and white. That only happened when it went to the tv version. I think they lost a lot of the detail and distinction of what it was supposed to look like. As for the Munchkinland/Oz part, it always was in color, although they did sharpen it up some. I've noticed that my copies of the tape that've been "restored" really do have a better quality than the copies that haven't been.

Overall, I'd have to say that I'm pleased with the restoration they've done. They didn't change anything - just restored it to its original coloration.

I remember when it first came out!! We had to travel two hours by (steam!) train to London to see it. It was the greatest thing when it went from B/W to colour. I couldn't believe it. We played 'Wizard of Oz' for weeks afterwards. I always had to be the witches never allowed to be Dorothy. The poor cat had to be Toto!!!

Didn't they bring it to theatres when they restored it or was it just on video?

My favourite characters were the witches. All of 'em even the good ones. I love how Glenda just appears and shimmers.
How do you know L Frank Baum was a degenerate racist? Can I have a link to some info on that?
