Hi.....I'm not sure what the 'NE' means in your post, but I've got some super films for you: If you want excellent suspense films, the kind with 'trick endings' that will leave your mouth hanging open, try: "No Way Out"-with Kevin Costner "Primal Fear"-with Richard Gere If you're not a great fan of Whoopie Goldberg's, try seeing what I feel she does best...she has made some of the sweetest, gentle, poignant, touching films I've ever seen....among them are: "Clara's Heart" Corinna, Corinna" If I've misinterpreted what you're looking for, please tell me. If not....enjoy. Rich (vendome)

Vendome -- spell it out N E = "Any" Neat abbreviation! I agree that Corinna Corinna is a good movie. I enjoyed it too. Also, every once in a while I go to the movie rental place and check out the old B&W movies. Like High Noon and some of the old Musicals. They're fun for a change of pace. ------------------ Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. [This message has been edited by Jar (edited 09-06-2000).]

Jar - What would I do without you? I'm embarrassed to say I majored in languages as an undegrad (Computerese wasn't one of them). I like the old musicals too, though it always struck me as a bit odd that people would burst into song at the drop of a hat. Anyway, the best musical I feel was "Carousel", with Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae, an exquisite combination of beautiful, moving music ("If I loved you", "You'll never walk alone") and a touching, poignant love story dealing with a topical subject (wife abuse). Made in the 50s, it is hopelessly outdated in its approach to the topic, but if you accept that fact, it's pure enjoyment. One of the WORST musicals ever made was the movie version of the glorious "Camelot" and, what a shame, because the stage version had some of the best music ever written ("If ever I would leave you", "C'est moi"). But the fools who produced the movie replaced Julie Andrews with Vanessa Redgrave, who either talks or croaks her way through her songs, Robert Goulet with Franco Nero (who?), and Richard Burton with Richard Harris (Richard Harris can't sing his way out of a paper bag but he's so likeable as Arthur, you tend to forget his lack of singing ability). Well, there you have it. I sort of went out on a tangent but, again, thanks for the clarification! And stick close...I have a feeling that I'll need you again! Rich (vendome)

Oh gosh, I've lots of films I'd love to recommend...but what genre? And how old? Alfred Hitchcock is one of my favourites, esp the Cary Grant films, "Rear Window" and "Strangers on a Train".What a brilliant director! Also, saw a rerun of "Citizen Kane " last night, it was brilliant...if you really go to think what the directors 60 years ago had to work with in comparison to those today, their films are woks of art....Also loved "The Third Man", with Orson Welles acting in it this time. And, the musicals, too! Of the new ones, I really enjoyed "The Matrix", and recently "The Gladiator", though I felt it lacked soul. Some good acting by Russell Crowe. Oh, I can go on forever.....

I guess I'm referring to those new ones, so I can go watch some with friends? But vendome, I agree with you about those old musicals. It's like they're talking, and then they're suddenly strutting with an umbrella and swinging around lamp-posts and dancing on the streets...it's really weird.

Rich, I saw the original Camelot on Broadway. I agree with you. Of course I was "but a teenage" when I saw it and don't think I really appreciated what I was seeing. As I think back on it now, OMG, I really saw Richard Burton/Julie Andrews/Robert Goulet?? How wonderful. Agree re the movie. Ick. ------------------ Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

If you are looking for a good movie, look no further than The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

If you like recent "contemporary" films try: High Fidelity & Grosse Point Blank (Both w/ John Cusack) SLC Punk: Very intertaining. About the punk scene in Salt Lake City circa Late 80's. The Zero Factor: (Sherlock Holmes, If Conan Doyle were a child of the Sixties!) Bill Pullman, Ben Stiller & Ryan O'Neill. In Theaters Now: X-Men Saving Grace Almost Famous ...and about a MillionMore ------------------ "The way to do, is to Be" - Socrates "The way to be, is to Do" - Plato "Do,Be,Do,Be,Do" - Sinatra [This message has been edited by Cohalen (edited 09-17-2000).]

Cube (also listed as The Cube) There's a good one to mess with your head a bit. Pretty good psychological twists, a little gore, some jumpy moments. ------------------ Wolfman's Place (A work in progress at WolfmanMP.knac.com)

"The Princess Bride": origin of some of the greatest lines of all time. "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." "No more rhymes now, I mean it!" "Anybody want a peanut?" "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" if you're in the mood for some wonderfully, brilliantly irreverent comedy. It's a Mel Brooks movie. "Spaceballs" is also fantastic. "Last Action Hero" got panned by critics, but I don't know why. It's an action-movie spoof starring Arnold Schwarzenegger playing an action hero played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, whom he also plays . . . But trust me. It's good. Worth watching just for the scene near the beginning in which Shakespeare's HAMLET is done up as an action film. "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg and Demi Moore. Sad. I cried. I loved it: a mystery with a twist. "Adventures in Babysitting" with Elizabeth Shue. An 80s comedy in which a babysitter takes her wards into THE CITY (of Chicago) to rescue her runaway friend ... then their tire goes flat, they're carjacked, and so on and so on. It ROCKS. And, of course, "The Matrix."

I would have suggestions, but I'm still getting over Vendome loving Camelot on stage and CellarDoor not knowing why "The Last Action Hero" was panned. This is actually quite simple: (despite the categories, i liked all of these movies)
Dumb Comedies: Caddyshack, Strange Brew, Dumb & Dumber, Top Secret! Smart Comedies: Waiting for Guffman, Kicking & Screaming, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Raising Arizona, The Hudsucker Proxy Big Dumb ACtion: X-Men,Die-Hard, Terminator 2 Suspense/Action: LA Confidential, The Usual Suspects, Miller's Crossing, Fargo Pornography: Edward Penishands Movie So BAD it's funny: Plan 9 From Outer Space Movie about the guy who made the movie so bad it's funny: Ed Wood ------------------ Coming or going, we must view the next century with an eye toward the possible continuence of our species on this planet and I'd rather be coming. --John Muir, 1973 [This message has been edited by tomije (edited 10-19-2000).]

If you are looking for old movies I recently saw Roman Holiday and it was quite enjoyable if you like B&W. In the theaters now is a great movie called Remember the Titans. It is not just a football movie, it is a movie about how we should all just get along.

Tomije....your taste is all in your mouth. You want funny...see 'Deuce Bigelow, Male Gigolo' or 'Harold and Maude' You want sweet and touching, see 'Forget Paris' (Billy Crystal and Debra Winger) or 'French Kiss' (Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline) You want poignant, see "The Dark at the Top or the Stairs' or 'Tea and Sympathy' And, two of the best movies ever made in the suspence category, 'No Way Out' and 'Primal Fear'
