For two weeks now I have driven to my local theater to go see Almost Famous. For two weeks it has not been playing!!

First it was my fault, I didn't notice on the commercials that it said "Opening in select cities 9/15, wider release 9/22"

So the first weekend I RUSHED to the cinema to get tickets and found they weren't showing the movie at all.

Then this past weekend I checked the paper first to see if it was playing anywhere and it was...so again I RUSHED to the theater to get my tickets...only to find it was a sneak preview only on Saturday night and by the time I got there it was SOLD OUT!!

So...this week starting on Friday I am hoping my local theaters will finally be showing Almost Famous ALL WEEK and ALL DAY so that I can FINALLY get to see it!!!

I have not been this excited about a movie in ages!!

Cameron Crowe has made some of my all time favorite films and I know this one is going to be the best of the best.

Three of my favorite actors...Billy Cudrup, Noah Taylor, and Jason Lee are all in this movie and I'm just going to be in heaven.

The newcomer who plays Cameron's alter ego is named Patrick Fugit and he and Kate Hudson (Goldie Hawn's daughter) are both so likeable and sweet...I'm going to love every moment of this movie.

Cannot wait....

Isn't it wonderful to be that excited about seeing a movie? I wish that one would come along that made me feel that way.I do hope that you manage to get in this weekend.I certainly hope that it is every bit as great as you expect it to be.

Your enthusiasm so refreshing.People are so quick to criticize and tear things down. It's nice to know that there are still people who get passionate in a positive way and can rave about things that they like.

Enjoy the movie!

Hungre! If I know your tastes (ans I think i have a pretty good Idea) you're gonna love this movie! Maybe even more than High Fidelity!

I saw it and...it was like reliving my life. The film begins in neighborhoods like the ones I grew up in. The music of the Beach Boys wrapping a nice comforting blanket of warmth and "normalcy" around our shoulders and saying..."This is about when you learned to LOVE Rock music". And this is just in the first 5 minutes.
I saw the "Making of Almost Famous" before seeing the movie and Cameron Crowe said that the characters in the film are composits of people he knew and loved in his early days and this film is sort of his "Thank You" to them.
In watching the film you get,in every scene, how special these people are. It's a great touching journey. I loved it.
And how cool for Billy Crudup, having Peter Frampton as his guitar teacher!

Cohalen,

I am a-tingle with anticipation! I too have been watching all these making of things and reading the articles....it only adds to my already out of control urge to see this movie. Whenever I see the trailer I get goosebumps. My heart skips a beat.

When I was in highschool I went to every concert that came to our little burg and I saw some terrible bands...but I also fell head over for rock-n-roll. I discovered The Doors, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, and the Grateful Dead when all my classmates were ga-ga for Madonna and Duran Duran....not that I don't appreciate some good pop music too, but I'm a freak for rock-n-roll.

The biggest love and heart break of my teen years was a boy who was a total musician....wrote original music, played drums, guitar, piano, and horns and had the coolest gargage band in town...of which I was occasionally allowed to be the back up singer/tamborine girl. He introduced me to the Ramones, Dead Kennedys, and more obscure people like Greg Kihn and Marshall Crenshaw.

So, as you can imagine, Cameron's real life experience as a teen is exactly what I dreamed of and longed for when I was that age (and probably still do a little bit!) I know you are 100% right...I am going to LOVE every moment!

Today's the Big Day!
(ahem. What's all this then about sneaking off to see Nurse Betty?!)

Which show did you see it at? was it worth the wait? (Or did Nurse Betty spoil it for you, like having a cookie before dinner?)
Enjoy!

Hey Cohalen....

Would you believe that I didn't get to go!!??

We had an unexpected mishap involving a waterbed leak and a long day of taking care of the damage and replacing the bed....

It was on Saturday and it took up the whole day and night and I never got to go. Today, Sunday, I had to work. So now I'm going to set my sights on either a night this week or it will have to be Saturday again.

I am still just itchin' to go and will tell ya as soon as I get in there!

I'm starting to think the cards are stacked against me!!!

Is hungree going to see it today? Will the waterbed leak again? Will the nasty ticket sellers refuse her entrance? Will the film theater get flooded from the hottub dealership on the other side of the wall? Will a Twister pick up her car on the way to the theater and land her in a drive-in theater in Kansas that isn't showing Almost Famous (or anything else for that matter)?
Tune in tomorrow for "Movie Perils of Hungree"!

Well....

I GOT TO SEE IT!!!!!!

Cohalen, I sat there and savored every single moment. It was so incredibly good and I'm still smiling. What can I say? It was everything I'd hoped for and more.

I can't talk about scenes or details because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but it is absolutely perfect and I'm already looking forward to seeing it again.

WhooooHooo! Excellent! I'm soooo happy you saw it!

Your Impression of Just two scenes:
1) When the band-aides are dancing around him and he's looking at her.
2) When they start singing "Tiny Dancer".

DON'T READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT SCENES FROM A MOVIE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN....NOT REALLY SPOILERS, BUT A BIT OF INFO YOU MAY NOT WANT TO HEAR.....

#1...almost every scene with the two of them is just perfect, almost makes you wonder if Patrick had a real crush on Kate. If he didn't then he has excellent acting expressions! He expressed so much with just his eyes and face.

The Tiny Dancer scene will go down in the history of Great Movie Moments/Scenes for the pure fun of it....it was all I could do not to sing along in the theater! I was mouthing the words!

For me one of the best moments was when P. asked W. "Why doesn't he love me?" That one sentence between those two people summed up a theme in the movie....(R. and P)., (W. and P)., and even Jeff Beebe and the public....it all boils down to that question and that is a question we have ALL asked ourselves when we've been on the losing end of unrequited love. When I was a teenage girl I asked that question more than once. When P. said it to W. I got a lump the size of a softball in my throat and shed a couple tears.

On a lighter note....when R. and W. go to the party at the teenager's house? Excellent all the way! So much of this movie is sooooo funny!

Wasn't Frances McDormand just fantastic too? Loved her. Oh and Phillip Seymour Hoffman too....he's always great and this was no different.

My Sister saw it and she said her audience WASSinging along with it. (Come to think of it so was mine - It was a a small matinee audience...I know I was singing along!) I think it's just...everyone knows the lyrics and there is a bond in that moment that you don't want to break by not singing. You WANT to be a part of THAT moment...even if you're in the audience...if you have any soul left in you.

From other "Almost Famous" thread...

Went and saw "Almost Famous" last night at the cinema, and I loved it!! Apparently the writer of the film / director (??) went through similar experiences when he was young (ie writing for music magazines and travelling around with bands). Anyone know anything about that??

But a great film overall - had me laughing heaps. And an EXCELLENT mix of 60s/70s music. Highly Recommended!!

Redback - Cameron Crowe was one of the premiere reviewers for Rolling Stone Magazine (and Creem) during the early (important) years of those magazines. He was just a pup when he started. This film is largely autobiographical and as he said in "The Making of" Dhort about Almost Famous, "This is sort of a 'Thank You' to a lot of people who touched my life".
Hes' done well since having written Fast Times st Ridgemont High and directed Jerry Maguire, he even found time to get married to the Blond Guitar playing Wilson Sister from Heart (I can never get it right: Ann or Nancy!)

PS: Happy Birthday! (Belatedly)
