Would someone explain why , the year that I choose not to go home to Uk on holiday, it is sunny and hot. When I went at Christmas it was horrifically cold and there was snow. If I decided to go to UK now , the weather would immediately change for the worse I know it for sure.

If by '...... change for the worse', you mean it would cool down and rain heavily, then please book your ticket immediately. A lot of people would thank you, I'm certain!

At least you are used to heat and are prepared for it with air conditioning

Yesterday, it was so hot that I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't close to 120°F (49°C) inside my car. It took several minutes to cool it down. The steering wheel almost burnt my hands!

I agree with aramis. In fact, I dislike temperatures much above 20ºC/70ºF. All the same, it’s not quite as bad as it might be on this bit of the south coast of England: there’s a bit of a breeze from time to time which is keeping the temperatures down to about 30ºC/86ºF. At present the forecasters are predicting rather cooler weather from Thursday, and I’m hoping they’ve got it right for once.

Our local news has just said that we were the hottest place in the British Isles - yuk. I took my barometer outside today and recorded 101 F and that is with a light breeze.

We don't have a hosepipe ban yet so my sprinkler is on at the moment.

All TV weather forecasters, who say 'another beautiful day' when it's going to be around 100F should be forced to spend an hour at least travelling on the London Underground, or some other big city metro train, at rush hour times. If they really can't manage this, then they should spend at least two hours stuck in traffic congestion in a car without air conditioning. Needless to say, their offices and studios should NEVER be air conditioned, as after all they do think excessively high temperatures are 'beautiful'!
Let them suffer if they love it so much.

107ºF today, humidity 23%. Heat advisories get issued for anything over 105º heat index. Yuck! Yes, we have air conditioning -- except when it breaks down or is not strong enough to combat these high temperatures. Some people down here (Texas) don't have a/c. Phoenix, Arizona today was 110ºF.

Sorry to hear it's so very hot and humid by others.

It is so hot! Right now it is 96ºF with 61% humidity. That pushes the heat index up to 110ºF. Tomorrow they are predicting 115ºF.

I was in New York City in October 2002, and even though the outside temperature was in the mid 50's (12-13°C), the subways felt like it was in the mid-90's (mid-30's C).

As Jar said, it was 107°F (42°C) in Dallas yesterday. We've been under a heat advisory since last Wednesday...a week ago.

Wow, and I thought I had it bad. Today is the coolest it's been for a long time, with today's high so far (as of 1:33)at 85. Yesterday, however, we hit 102 degrees F (39 degrees C, I think, it's a rough guess as I have no idea how to convert.) Playing baseball in this weather is not advisable. I suddenly hate playing catcher. ;--)

At noon today, it was 97°F (36.5°C). The last two days we've had record high low temperatures (Mon 85°F, Tue 82°F).

To help you convert, 68°F is 20°C. For each 1°C, you add 1.8°F. Hence, 69.8°F is 21°C, etc.

°C = 5/9 * (°F - 32)

After a day in the office wearing a wrap to keep the chill of the aircon from freezing me to death, walked outside to return home to be almost knocked over by the heat. It was also 36C at 4.00 p.m. which rose to 37C once I got into the centre of Cambridge.

A brisk warm wind was blowing which is most unusual for the UK - not in the slightest bit humid, which made it just about bearable.

After scattered storms tonight it is expected to be a little cooler tomorrow with 28C expected.

Personally would prefer to be on holiday and sitting on a beach, but as an alternative to the usual drizzly cold British summers, this is lovely.

It was hotter in 1976 and also with less rain for several weeks - cannot remember all the health warnings we are getting constantly on the news and factor 50 sunscreen didnt exist in those days.

Guess us Brits just dont do heat, or snow, or anything extreme. We trek off to the Costas and the Caribbean every year and sun ourselves at temperatures in excess of what we are experiencing now and live to tell the tale. I know it is tough if you have to work in an uncomfortably hot environment and think that companies should be compelled to make contingency plans to keep their workforce at a decent temperature.

We have a minimum temperature by law, but not a maximum one...

In the year 1980, there were a lot of places in the USA with temperatures well over 100°F. In Dallas, there were 69 days that summer over 100°F. Other places, such as one in southern Missouri, was over 100°F for over 20 straight. My dad told me that there was at least one night in Missouri that year where the overnight low was 90°F.

I'm looking forward to the weekend here...we have a chance of rain and highs back (maybe) in the high 80's to low 90's (low 30's C).

Today started off much like yesterday, ie very hot, however when I was about to leave the house to go into town after lunch I got splashed with some large raindrops. Although it stopped raining by the time I arrived in town, it was still overcast - never have clouds been so welcome.

They are calling for the heat index to hover in the 120º range. There are half a million or more homes without electric after the storms. They are trying to evacuate nursing homes that are without electricity. And declare a state of emergency for the St. Louis area.

I've got about one Oh Three on my patio at the moment. There's a teeny tiny breeze coming up.
Of course, the breeze is rippling across the pool, which is why I'm not terribly worried.
I don't have the AC on yet, but it's getting pretty late.

Ok, now it's getting seriously hot. 110 on the terrace at that house and in the place we're moving into, an outage for an hour or so with an AC problem and condenser bursting and flooding my brand new floor...we're not covered!

It's been very hot here too, and I'd like you all to spare a thought for my husband - he works outside, in a patch of land (about half a block square) where the topsoil and any ground cover has been bulldozed away. All the big vehicles are running, so their engines are putting out heat. He has to wear fire retardent coveralls, a hard hat,and steel toed boots.

In addition to 100 + temperatures we have had violent thunderstorm which had knocked down huge trees on numerous houses. Much of the city is without electrical power.

Edited to change title back - please do not alter topic titles, it gets confusing.
