Don't know who all 'worked on' them, but 'Jim Thorpe...' starred Burt Lancaster, Errol Flynn was 'The Sea Hawk', 'King Creole' was an Elvis Presley vehicle and I have no idea on 'Francis of Assisi. Never heard of the flick. ------------------ Gunslinger 'Never teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.'

Francis of Assisi? Never Heard of it? Bradford Dillman (The Poor Man's Chuck Heston) was inspirational in that! Actually There is one person who worked on ALL of those films! That's who's being looked for! [This message has been edited by Cohalen (edited 12-01-2000).]

Ooh.....ooh.....I know, I know!!!! (Picture a hand flailing wildly in the air. ) They were all directed by Michael Curtiz. Sorry I haven't been around much the past week. That pesky old Thanksgiving holiday got in the way of my online life.

Thank You, GOD! Finally! Annie...you've been missed. Welcome back from the otherside of Thanksgiving! (Hope it was a great one! ) Anyway, Yes! It was Michael Curtiz (among his many other names) Glad you Saw "worked" and didn't just think "Acted"! You're turn!Just curious. Would you have gotten the "Zero Effect" Question? (What am I saying, of course you would have. I quess my question is WHEN would you have gotten it? Right off from the qoute? Or would one of the clues have given it to you?) Hi Cohalen, and thanks for missing me. I would have gotten The Zero Effect, but only by looking it up.....I'm not that smart! I typed, "Now, a few words on looking for things" into Google, and a site for "Forensic Computer Analysis: An Introduction" came up with the exact quote, the character, and the movie. Go figure. My question is: Who are the only three people to receive simultaneous Oscar nominations for producing, acting and writing? (One of them did this twice, and two of them received nominations for directing, as well.)

I can get the "two-fer" guy(his sister channeled the answer to me!), but can't get a fix on the others. I thought I had it at least 4 times but either the person wasn't one of the producers, or wasn't the writer, or didn't act. This is a toughy!

I'm sorry. I didn't think this was that difficult, but I guess I was wrong. Here's a hint: The other two received their nominations during the 1940's, and only one year apart. (I don't think I'm going out on a limb, in assuming you already have the correct answer for the third person. )

Ok! You're correct. My mental stumbling block was that I was only looking at the Best Picture winners...not all the nominees. That's why I excluded Orson Welles for Citizen Kane and Charles Chaplin for The Great Dictator. Oh, And The Other guy was Warren Beatty for Heaven Can Wait & Reds respectively.

I just knew you could do it--you got 'em all! As I'm sure you already know, Welles and Beatty also received directing nominations for their films, while Chaplin did not. It's your turn my friend.

It was an interesting search! There were so many people who came close, but missed by one ot two catagories. Sly Stillone and Woody Allen both lacked Producers credit for Rocky & Anne Hall respectively. And Woody Directed too! Kevin Costner also won as Director with Dances with Wolves but was missing the writing credits. (But credit Kevin for providing buddy Michael Blake a place to write the book & movie). Lawrence Olivier was invovled in the writing ,but the script didn't get a nod that year due to a change in the writers guild the year Hamlet came up for consideration. Richard Attenbourogh & John Huston Produced, Directed, even Acted in their dominant movies, respectively, Ghandi & Treasure of Sierra Madre. Neither was the star of their film (though Huston wrote the winning screenplay). Mel Gibson had just the opposite situation, he was the star(And Producer/Direcor), but not the writer. Then there are Directors like, Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, Lawrence Kasden, Oliver Stone, Steven Spielberg and James Cameron. They all Produce & Direct. Some also write and/or act. But Rarely all four at the highest levels. Rare Accomplisment, that! ************************************************** Now, as to the question: it's this: The Acedamy award is a man standing on a film reel with 5 spokes on it. Why the 5 spokes? What's the significance? ------------------ Father Christmas, Give us the money. We don't have time for your silly toys. We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over. Don't make us annoyed, save all your toys, for the little rich boys!

Cohalen, Is the answer...........because it represents the five nominees in each category? Over at www.academyawards.com they give a complete history of the awards....but they don't come right out and say the reason for the five....they do say that every award category get five nominees. I wonder if that is the connection?

Well, this one's gone stale! It represented the original 5 Branches of the Academy: Producers-Directors-Actors-Writers-TechniciansOK, next: This Actor, Working since he was one, is the son and brother of other famous actors. He's Been an Alien, a Musician, A Wild West Gunfighter, A Carmaker, and a Dude. Be sure to save some cake for him! ------------------ "One man's life touches so many others, when he's not there it leaves an awfully big hole." Sorry, Hungree...didn't see you're post(s). Here's the quote from my source page and the link at Imdb. The Oscar statuette has been designed by Cedric Gibbons and sculpted by Los Angeles artist George Stanley. Each statuette is made from the alloy britannium and is then plated in copper, nickel silver, and finally, 24-karat gold and is manufactured by R.S. Owens and Company in Chicago. It stands 13-1/2 inches tall and weighs 8-1/2 pounds. The Oscar depicts a knight, holding a crusader's sword, standing on a reel of film. The film reel features five spokes, signifying the five original branches of the Academy (actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers.) See "the site" ------------------ "One man's life touches so many others, when he's not there it leaves an awfully big hole." [This message has been edited by Cohalen (edited 12-04-2000).]

Thanks Cohalen! I know your current question without even needing to look it up!! The answer is Jeff Bridges! The Musician in Fabulous Baker Boys The Carmaker in Tucker a Man and his Dream The DUDE in The Big Lebowski (one of my all time favorite movies!) And of course the son of actor Lloyd and brother of actor Beau Bridges. I'll think of something soon.....

This groundbreaking film starred one of America's greatest actresses in a role that would earn her Best Actress awards from The National Board of Review, The NY Film Critics, The Venice Film Festival and a nomination for Best Actress from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The picture earned nominations in all of these categories: Best Actress Best Score Best Director Best Screenplay Best Picture Best Sound The only Oscar it took home was for Best Sound. This is truly a groundbreaking film--most especially because it was produced in the late 1940's--and it will be airing on the Fox Movie Channel this week..... Can you name the film?

I'm gonna guess "Wizard of Oz"! Only 'cuz I can't think of any other movie off the top of my head (Must be the Linda1 "Oz" soundtrack playing here 24/7 ) But Mainly, I wanted to point out that the "cake" was mentioned because today is Jeff Bridges Birthday! To Cohalen--I knew the answer to your question, but I wanted to give someone else a chance to play, rather than hogging all the questions. (I'm such a nice person. ) I decided this morning, that if no one had given the correct answer by the time I got home this afternoon, I'd answer it. So, here I am, but I see I've already missed the boat! I'll try not to let this happen again. As for your question hungree, is the movie in question The Snake Pit?

YES Annie! Once again you are too good to stump! I accidentally discovered this movie a couple years ago on cable. I couldn't get over how good it was. I plan on taping it Friday night at 8pm when it airs on the Fox Movie Channel (FMC). It is a really cool movie and way ahead of its time. Go ahead and throw one at us!

Hi Guys! I just had a "Star Sighting" that was to funny to believe and I had to share it with somebody. I thought you might get a giggle out of it. So...I'm in Home Depot getting a new Hot Water stem for the kitchen sink and a hot water heater release valve. My Home Depot guy is leading me over to the plumbing section and I see this guy pushing a cart and he looks just like Fabio. And I say to My H.D.Guy, "Hey look, It's Fabio." Then I realise, It IS Fabio. and he's got jeans and a silk shirt open to mid chest and a cord shirt over that. And I'm doing my best not to laugh out loud. I think he was there with him mom. He seemed to be a nice guy (His H.D. guy was conferring with my H.D. Guy about whatever it was he was looking for.) I think he got nervious when a lady behind me started talking to someone on her cell phone and the aisle started getting "crowded". When it turned out my guy couldn't help his guy we continued to finish getting the rest of my stuff. I guess everybody needs stuff for their house but it just seemed funny. Like seeing...Sophia Loren at McDonalds. Just Wacky! ------------------ "One man's life touches so many others, when he's not there it leaves an awfully big hole."
