These people were merely trying to reach out to you - a new comer. It's a big world and this is an international sight filled with accomplished people. I hardly think you have the right to pass judgement on anyone. I agree with Gats... in this case it would be just as easy to say 'get lost.' The only bad thing about the internet is that it is hard to acurately convey your intensions. "Just saying hi" is also not paticulary original but no one here was rude enough to mention it.
