What do you think of them?

I have never understood what was so funny about slapstick and have never been entertained by it.
Even when a young child (back when there were only 6 tv stations and no such things as DVDs or tapes, I disliked them. My mother would get frustrated with me because she could put my brother and sisters in front of the Three Stooges and count on a little time to get her housework done, but it never worked with me.

I grew up watching The Three Stooges. But I've seen the episodes so many times, I don't care to really watch them anymore. I did think that Shemp was under-rated. I was always inclined to prefer him over Curly. Joe Besser never was funny to me.

I also grew up watching them, but outgrew any interest I had while I was still under twelve. Now, older, I do find their biographies interesting. I watched a movie about them with my grown-up son last spring and found it fascinating, with its emphasis on their early roots in Vaudeville and all that. They are definitely an important part of American pop culture history, but I just could not sit and watch an episode now. And I really DO think it's a man/woman thing. My husband and my guitar player will both sit and laugh outloud at episodes they've seen at least ten times. After one minute, my eyes start to glaze over. I wonder, though, how their humor holds up for today's younger generation?

They were a little before my time but when I catch the odd show here and there randomly (i can never figure out when they're on) I find them hilarious.

I love the Stooges, though please, no Joe Besser and no Joe DeRita. I recall collecting pop bottle caps in grade school to get into the theatre to watch a Stooges film festival. Then a few years ago, a local theatre had a midnight showing of some really hilarious Stooges' films. Unfortunately, most of the Stooges material I've seen on dvd has been either poor audio/visual quality or poor choice of the boys' short films.

I've enjoyed the Stooges since my older brother got me hooked about 45 years ago. I can watch them repeatedly and never tire of them. I can honestly say that they made growing up a lot more fun. Curley was always my favourite and Larry would have to be the most underrated Stooge. I even have a set of Stooge for President in '08 t-shirts.

Are they, or rather their movies, making a 'comeback' then? I recall the Stooges from my childhood, but haven't seen or heard anything of them for may years.
Their type of humour was of an age when a custard pie in the face drew riotous laughter, but nowadays would barely raise a smile for most people. For their time they were hilarious, but I don't think there'd be many people tuning in if there films were broadcast today.

When I was growing up, I didn't like slapstick comedy at all and didn't care for the Three Stooges' physical brand of slapstick. But I enjoy watching them once in a while now. As gretas mentioned, they are one of the icons of American pop culture.

I love em',through buying and recording them,I have about 145 of their around 190 short films,I have all but like 3 Curly shorts.They don't make me laugh out loud and spray my beverage out my mouth and nose,but they definately make me smile and chuckle a bit.I also own a book ,"The Three Stooges Encyclopedia" which is very informative.I,like Lemmy,believe that Shemp was every bit as good as Curly,but in his own way.They taught me everything I know about plumbing!

I don't think they were that funny.
