A news report the other day had the headline along the lines of "Latham moves to the bush!" - about Mark Latham who was shunning public life and moving to where the was no mobile phone reception or mains water. (*gasp* the horror!) So I figured he would have gone over the mountains or above Gosford at least. He has moved to Camden. I would have thought that was part of Sydney but having never lived in Sydney I realize that the concept could be different to those that do live there.

So Sydneysiders - where do you think Sydney finishes and where does it start?

Many Sydneysiders would be surprised to realise that there is a world outside Sydney at all!

I have no idea where the 'official' boundaries are, but in my mind, the extremities would be Engadine in the south, Campbelltown in the south-west, Penrith to the west, Richmond to the north-west, and Hornsby (or Cowan) in the north.

With the way that the population is growing, it will only be a matter of time before we engulf Wollongong, Gosford (or even Newcastle!) and Katoomba.

Camden is not that far from Campbelltown, and there is a lot of development going on in that area- perhaps one day even that town will enter the 20th century..

For me there are only 3 boundaries, considering Sydney is on the ocean that`s fair enough I guess.
Helensburgh in the south. Penrith in the west. Hornsby in the north.
I don`t think of Campbelltown as being part of Sydney for a couple of reasons. It seems to be more like a country environment and the name of the place itself, like ending in "town". Camden I think of as being rural and not at all part of Sydney.
Of course being a hobbit from THE SHIRE why would I care about the rest of "Sydeny" anyway?

Mmm, Sydney has boundaries? Lol!

As an expat Sydney-sider I must notate that both Ozzz and Roos seem to be on the right track . . . and as for Mark Latham (Mark who?) . . . and what's this, people actually get Mobile Phone reception and, oh my heavens, Mains Water?

I live in a truly rural area, out the back of buggery really, without good phone reception, reliant on tank water, no bin service etc, etc . . . and I would consider Camden as being almost residential compared to here! And as for Campbelltown, well, it's always seemed to me to be a part of Sydney, I mean, the Western Suburbs of Sydney surely encompass Campbelltown, where else would all those 'Westies' come from?
