Here's one for the "weird group names":
The Hill Valley Preservation Society - They take songs you never hear anymore and modernize them. They do every thing from TV themes to video game music to songs from movies. I personally love their covers of the "Fraggle Rock" theme and of "Dance Magic" from the movie Labyrinth.

Here's another tidbit:
One of the singers for the song "Chilly Down" from the movie Labyrinth is Danny John-Jules who played Cat on the Brit TV show "Red Dwarf".
