I think "Man on the Moon" is the best movie he's been in, and his best performance. But for silly comedy, I love "Ace Ventura" and "Dumb and Dumber."

The Truman Show is by far his best performance and a movie that makes me cry at the end EVERYTIME I see it...no matter if it's twice in the same week on HBO not. Many people don't "get" that movie...I think it's incredible in every way.

I enjoyed Man on the Moon, but not nearly as much as Truman.

The only comedy of his that I ever liked was The Cable Guy...another movie not everyone "got"...but I liked it alot.

I liked the Truman Show when I saw it in the theater, but I haven't seen it since. Perhaps I should rent it again sometime!

hungree, I heard that the Cable Guy was terrible, so I skipped it. I think you're the first person I've heard say they liked it.

Hi Sand,
Most people hated The Cable Guy and I think it's because it's not the Jim Carrey everyone was expecting after the Ace Ventura movies. It's a wickedly black comedy and Carrey is not a likeable guy in the movie...he's the "bad" guy and Ben Stiller is his foil. I happen to love Ben Stiller and I love a good black comedy. I wouldn't say it's a great movie overall...but it has some great scenes...the number one best scene of all is when Ben Stiller finds Carrey playing "Dirty Word Password" with
his parents and he's forced to play with his own mother. It's a great scene.

Pretty much any movie that Jim Carrey does not appear in, is a favorite of mine.

Gotta throw in a vote for Liar, Liar. A movie with great heart, similar in theme to Robin Williams "Mrs. Doubtfire". As for Dramas, whileI also like The Truman Show (Haven't seen "Man on the Moon" yet), for me, one of his best perfomances was an early Made-for-TV move called "Doing Time on Maple Street". It's the movie where I saw just how gifted a performer he is. He plays the overlooked, alcoholic, oldest son in a disfunctional family. Sort of a modern version of Eugene O'Neill's ""Long Day's Journey into Night". Find it if you can!

I liked "Liar, Liar" as well.

Hi hungree, I probably will avoid "Cabel Guy" as I am not a fan of the black comedy (except in rare cases) nor am I much of a Ben Stiller fan. For some reason "Meet the Parents" just bothered me.

Just a correction, I think it was Matthew Broderick and not Ben Stiller that appeared with Carrey in 'Cable Guy'.

As for my personal favorite:

Lep you are absolutely right!! How could I have done that? I know why...Ben Stiller DIRECTED it! I just put him in the role. I must be getting old.

I agree with the small concensus of movies without him except for just one....

Dumb and Dumber makes me laugh..not just giggle but big hold your stomach gonna throw up laughs...I don't think its just him...forgive me if I get the name wrong but jeff daniels (i think is him) makes the movie...That one is going to be as classic to me as caddyshack...never intended to win an oscar but you find something funnier with every viewing...

I have many friends who like the cable guy...I have yet to rent it...however after seeing brodericks performance in Election I may have to check it out....

I really don't care for Jim Carey. I thought his impersonation of Andy Kaufman in "Man In The Moon" was quite good--but I thought it was more of an impersonation than a characterization. I liked the movie, "The Truman Show", but I probably would have liked it even more with a different actor.

The Truman Show and Dumb & Dumber are the best movies he has been in, in my perspective. He's not my favorite actor, but he CAN ACT!

Well, I have a love/hate relationship with Jim Carrey movies. Hated the first "Ave Ventura", love the second. Love "Liar Liar"... hate "Dumb and Dumber". Absolutely love "The Truman Show", and have no desire to see "Man on the Moon" (not an Andy Kaufman fan but I may see it someday). Look forward to "The Grinch", I think I'll like it.

But I have too much intelligence and respect for the mentally ill to even go see "Me, Myself and Irene". Yeah, severe mental illness is SOO f***ing funny!! Let's make a comedy about cancer while we're at it!! Or rape! Yippee!

*pant pant*

Um, sorry.

I think to me that is definatly Ace Ventura. For the rest he has got some good movies, but also some terrible ones.

I like Jim Carrey and most of his movies, but I think he was funnier on In Living Colour. Then again, I am partial to Canadian actors and actresses.

Although I thought Me, Myself & Irene was d*mn funny, I agree with TrueBlueGolde that the subject matter was a little inappropriate. And badly researched! All through the movie he keeps saying he has "blah blah blah schizophrenia", when it's obvious that he's suffering from a multiple personality disorder. It is a fact that the only schizophrenics that suffer from split personalities are schizophrenics with MPD. The Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde concept of schizophrenics is an unfounded stereotype, one which people have been trying to correct for years. I think it's very unfortunate that the writers for this movie chose to help strengthen people's mistaken notions.
