Does anyone have any advice? I find my monitor goes completely blank from time to time. If I am in the middle of typing something, when the screen is normal again, the words I typed (blindly) are there. It returns to normal if I switch it off and on again. The power light is on (under the screen) It is weird.

It could be something to do with the monitor, the graphics card or the connection between the two. Perhaps the first thing to do would be to check that the connection lead is secure at both ends. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in maybe. If that doesn't do any good, can you lay your hands on another monitor to try?

Thanks very much TW, I had to go and buy a new monitor. The guy said the switch needed replacing (on/off)under the screen. I had a lot to get on with so I couldnt wait for a repair job. Lovely new 19" screen, therefore!

It's often better to replace, rather than repair, these days. Have you gone from a CRT (tube) monitor to a TFT flat panel one? If so, you might like to try turning 'ClearType' on if it isn't already done.

* Right-click on the Desktop.
* Select 'Properties'.
* Click on the 'Appearance' tab.
* Click the 'Effects' button.
* Select 'ClearType' in the drop-down menu box where it says, 'Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts'.
* Click OK and OK to close the dialogue boxes.

I find this is the best setting for flat monitors. See what you think.

That seems to have worked out OK, thanks. Now, not, I think ,to do with that, as it was like it before I did what you said: Can you tell me why I have only half a screen at whatever site I go to,until I click the fullscreen icon at top right?? It is strange. It is just a nuisance really but I would like to know...

A few people complain about that. This article explains what to do about it quite well, so I hope the link to it will be helpful.
