Do you consider yourself to be Left or Right in your political views? Maybe you don't really know, but if you're interested in finding out you can do so by taking the political compass test at http://www.politicalcompass.org
The test takes about 5 - 10 minutes and asks you to make an answer choice to a variety of questions. There's no 'Don't know' or 'No opinion' option, so you have to respond to all questions positively, and it's very important to read the question properly before answering.
The answer page gives your political bias on a graph, and provides sample examples for various well known figures. I came out as minus 1.88 on the economic scale, and 0.87 on the social scale - which puts me right in the middle of Stalin, Hitler, Thatcher, Friedman and Ghandi! The nearest famous character in political opinion to me, from the given examples, appears to be Pope Benedict XVI.

Slightly authoritarian and slightly right, according to the scale. I was close to Tony Blair.

That puts me smack in the middle of the left wing, libertarian quadrant of the compass. Which, I suspect, comes as no surprise to any of you who know me.

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -5.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.82

And I have no idea where that lands me . Sounds adequately sensible, though, I guess.

So I'm in the Left/Libertarian quadrant, but also pretty centrist. The person I rank closest to is Nelson Mandela, which is cool because I love South Africa!

We're identical. And both very near to Ghandi.

I'm starting to feel a little concerned about being among all you 'left-wingers' with my middle of the road -1.88 economic and 0.87 social - only joking, really!
Still it's harmless fun to see the various 'rankings', if that's the right word?
Surely there must be some right wing capitalists out there!

How about a left wing capitalist, aramis?

Economic: 0.50
Social: -1.23

Translation: fairly hard core libertarian, including freedom of capitalism.

I let evolution fix imbalances. If that means the human race making itself extinct in the years to come, then so be it. The planet was fine before us, and it will be fine after us.

This also explains why I can't stand either US political party.

I can't stand the Democrats' socialist stand on the economy and I can't stand the Republicans' authoritarian religious stuff.

I am closest to the Dalai Lama which makes perfect sense to me.

Frittering away the afternoon waiting for Ernesto to make landfall close to here (the beaches of southeastern NC).

Thanks Copago. I'll get to see all the damage when the sun is out tomorrow. We've had pretty bad winds and rain.

Economic Left/Right: -6.13

That makes me Libertarian Left, and closest to the Dalai Llama's dot. Methinks I am happy in my square. I would have been quite worried if I had ended up in the same one as John Howard

I don't know about putting multi-dimensional people on a 2 dimensional chart. This needs more options for answers or chance to not answer things that you dont have opinions on.

I've always considered myself a constructive anarchist: wanting to build a society that takes care of all of it's members with as little government coercion as possible. Versus the destructive anarchists such as robber barons, dictators, or free enterprise radicals who want to destroy government so those with the most power can ignore how they hurt others while pursuing their selfish interests.

I was very near center.

Economic: -1.38

Looking at the graph, I'm closest to the Pope.

We aren't too far off:

A bit closer to Ghandi than Mandela, but still quite distant from the right-wing authoritarians who seem to dominate the North Atlantic political scene.
