I like a scare or two from time to time. Hope to be seeing "Hannibal" soon. My cable went out last nite, so, as I only had one local channel to watch, watched me a good ol' horror flick last nite. The one I watched was called "The Surgeon" about a mad doctor/surgeon, who became demented when he saw a crazed doctor "butcher" his brother in the examining room. First part of flick is in B&W (like "Wizard of Oz"?), and this young man put a lollipop in his dead brother's hand as he lay dead on the operating table. The old 50's tune "Lollipop" played during this sequence, then came the color portion where the young man, now a doctor, goes around with giant hypodermic needles terrorizing patients, doing all kinds of yucky stuff! Gross!

Anybody else into horror?

I also like horror movies, but there are so few good ones these days.

I like "campy" horror as well as "classic" horror. Hub and I saw the movie "Valentine", and it's kinda cheesy, I liked it. As I'm a "February baby" (b-day 2/4, same as Alice Cooper), I like horror movies related to Valentine's day. Another flick I own is called "Cupid", and it's similar to "Valentine". That's an interesting double feature: (1) "Cupid"; (2) "Valentine".

I like horror flicks based in high school (as I hated my miserable HS life), saw a black comedy/horror flick (rented it) called "Pep Squad", and have seen others like this.

I'm also "obsessed" with summer camps, and the "Sleepaway Camp" movies are quite groovy. I own the first (and best, in my opinion) one.

Well, I'm at lunch.

Later,

terr-bo

I like good 'low budget' horror movies from the late 70's early 80's....they make me laugh when i compare them to todays horror movies, yet they're still good to watch....but some of my fav's which arent necessarily from those years are Evil Dead 1 & 2 .....I like 'I Spit on Your Grave'...thats not really considered horror, is it?....my absolute fav, and i still watch it with one eye closed is..The Exorcist...!!!

I am a horror movie fanatic! I've seen them all...b-rated, bloody, gruesome, psychological, you name it. Every Freddie, Jason, and Pinhead. Fav's are probably the Hellraiser series. Boy is that Clive Barker twisted. I wonder what his childhood was like. I saw Hanibal on opening weekend, and it was intense. Not the mind-wrenching thriller like the first, but more gorey. There were a couple of scenes that made me cringe, and that takes a lot. I loved it, though. It will be mine as soon as the video is out!

For my recent b-day, a buddy of mine gave me a horror (looks campy) called "Attack of the Killer Refrigerator". Ever heard of it?

I like really gory and gruesome movies with lots of blood and guts and brains and stuff but what I can't stand watching are films with spiders and other sorts of creepy crawly bug things.

I'm not a "spider-friendly" person either, although there's this flick called "Spider Baby" which is quite odd. And it can be considered "horror" I guess. More like a demented "Addams Family".

What about demonic, scary ventriolquist's dummies? "Magic" w/Anthony Hopkins is kinda creepy, and I watched this 60's flick w/ a hypnotist that had a dummy called "Devil Doll" -- freaky!

I'm a fan of the old-school horror film; among my faves are Whale's masterpiece "The Bride Of Frankenstein", Mamoulian's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", Laughton's "Island of Lost Souls", Ulmer's "Black Cat", and the Jacques Tourner classic "Curse of the Demon", perhaps the last of the classic B&W monster shows. Of course, the original "King Kong" too! "Psycho" and Powell's "Peeping Tom" lead the mad killer genre. I also recommend Frankenheimer's "Seconds". And Coppola's "Dracula", for its stylish take on Stoker. tjoeb};>

I have long been a fan of the horror genre. I even managed to watch almost every film in the collection at my local video store (no joke). I guess I changed my tastes when the supply ran dry. A few of my favorites were:
[LIST]
  • The Shining - This is a great movie even for folks who don't go for horror. Nicholson was great, so creepy!
  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - This did what Blair Witch was so praised for recently. It took this really scary movie and made it so much scarier by using such terrible cinematography that half the time you are relying on the noises to figure out what's happening. Very scary and engrossing. The remake with Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger wasn't bad, either.
  • The Candyman 1 and 2 - These were so scary, even though they had nothing to do with each other. The first one actually made me scream, which isn't achieved often by movies.
  • Motel Hell - Terrible, campy b-movie, but I loved it nonetheless. It's about this farmer who makes beef jerky out of people. The best scenes involve the 'garden' where he has planted people he collects from nearby car accidents. He cuts their vocal cords and puts them in the ground with their heads about the surface. What an ingenious thought!

Have seen a few kinda "campy" horror flicks lately:
    (1) watched this vid a got from ebay called "Midnight Cabaret" about a stage show/cabaret theatre that is eerily like "real life" where this virginal actress meets up w/the "son of the devil"(?) -- interesting.
    (2) in honor of my upcoming class reunion I also got from ebay "Class Reunion Massacre" and it was campy good fun.
    (3) and from this movie con I went to last year, I got this horror/comedy called "Deathrow Gameshow" and just louvred it!

Well, it's flooding in Houstoned, so
    bye now

Saw it and thought it was hilarious! Can't wait for the upcoming sequel.

Sorry that Brando had to bow out.

Brando bowed out? I hadn't heard that. That's a disappointment; I was looking forward to his cameo.

    Hi!

Not a horror movie, but watched "The Talented Mr. Ripley" this weekend, due to being stranded in our condo due to flooding in Houston, and there is an EXTREMELY violent scene towards the end of the movie -- yikes!

Horror movies with vampires are cool too, but, only if you can see when thet suck the blood out of a human.

terr-bo: if you're into violent scenes, you should watch 'Natural Born Killers'. It's a good movie, but it's also extremely violent. Make sure to get the director's edition, though. Oliver Stone had to take a lot out for the theatrical release.

Saw "Natural Born Killers" at the theater and it's "kick-butt"! Haven't seen the "director's cut" though. Also speaking of violence, this weekend saw "Way of the Gun" w/Benecio Del Toro and Ryan Phillippe. Quite bloody. In fact, I described to a girlfriend this weekend as "artsy fartsy blood and guts".

    buh bye,

Gee thanx, Pinhead! I just let Joe Bob Briggs' website know about the con!

I've (me & hub) been to Chiller Con in NJ twice, and last summer went to Classic Filmfest 2000 in Alexandria, VA. I just louvre cons where I get to meet other movie freaks! I sure would louvre to go to this one in Baltimore, and check out some John Waters' haunts, etc.
