What is your favourite scene ever in a movie? For me it is a scene in the movie "Wayne's World." There is this scene where Wayne and Garth are listening to music in the car, and they are lipsynching and headbanging insync to the Queen song "Bohemian Rhapsody." Runner up goes to a scene in the "South Park" movie where Cartman is singing "Kyle's Mom is a Big Fat B****" in a bunch of different languages.

i almost wet myself whenever i watch the scene in "analyse this", where billy crystal attends a mafia meeting as robert di niro's 'conciglieri'.

"some of you may know me as 'benny the groin', 'sammy the schnoz', 'elmer the fudd', and once .....as 'miss phyllis levine'..."

i cannot help but unleashing a really unladylike guffaw when i watch that..
needless to say i try and watch that one on my own.

My favourite scene is from Raider of the Lost Ark.

Indiana is baing chased through the streets and into a crowded market place when suddenly the crowd parts to reveal a large man with a big sword. The large man does a few tricks with his big sword.

The audience is prepared for an epic one on one battle between our hero, Indiana and the bad guy. Indiana, who is obviously exhausted by this point and in no mood for another fight simply pulls out his gun and shoots the bad guy.

Cracks me up every time.

Cheers

Craig

There are without a doubt quite a few moments in moviedom that warrant inclusion here, but the one that has always stood out in my mind is Spencer Tracy's monologue about love at the end of the film "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner". Really touching, a crusty old warrior baring his soul as he probably had never done before about life, love, racism, his own mortality, the whole ball of wax. It's even more poignant when you realize that this was Tracy's swan song and he died just a few short weeks after shooting wrapped. He wasn't just acting, he was revealing his true feelings to the audience and his lifelong paramour Kate H. Kind of a final love letter to the world.

Ok, just one more, the final sequence of scenes at the end of "To Kill A Mockingbird"
starting with Scout and Jem's departure from the local fair (Scout dressed as a ham) and ending with adult Scout's closing monologue about her experiences and how it shaped her life and those close to her. Gets me every time.

Did you know that the Indiana Jones scene was made up by Harrison Ford? He was sick that day and thought it'd be the fastest, easiest way to shoot the scene!

I'm inclined to agree with you, PoE--I looooove the headbanging scene. I have loved that song ever since; I can sing right along. Due to the movie's popularity, the song got a lot of radio play at the time. I was in 5th or 6th grade.

Hehe Space Odyssey messed me up big time! I was going to read the novel for my Senior English class, but I didn't understand it... so I rented the movie to watch, and didn't understand that! So finally: "Mr. Woodill! I'm switching to Gone With the Wind!" "That book is 1000+ pages! Are you sure you have time?" "...yes." Hehehe he never found out I read it the summer before... *G*

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I think my favourite scene from a movie (although I nearly wet myself laughing reading over these) is the scene from The Last Crusade where Indiana and his father seem like they have lost all hope when they're on the beach, being shot at by the Nazi airplane... Indy's all out of ideas, and then his father grabs his umbrella and you're so sure that he's got some gadget tucked away in it, a la 007, but then he starts making this ridiculous noise, and flapping his umbrella open and closed, and scaring all the seagulls on the beach... foiling their assailant and making a clean get away!!!" I've never laughed so hard in my life!!!

My favorite scene in a movie is in To Kill A Mockingbird at the end when Scout is finally comes face to face with Boo Radley who had just saved her & her brother Jem's lives. He's hiding behind the door in Jem's room when she realizes he's there her father moves the door, she utters just two words "Hey Boo" and it's at that moment she realizes he's not the horrible monster they had imagined, but rather a man-child who only had love and friendship in his heart like a mockingbird.

My favorite is from "Monty Python's Life Of Brian" when the centurion (John Cleese) brings Brian (Graham Chapman)before Pilate (Michael Palin). Here's the script of the scene (you really have to see it and hear it to get the full effect):

Centurion: Hail Caesar.
Pilate: Hail Caesar.
Centurion: Only one survivor, Sir.
Pilate: Thwow him to the floor.
Centurion: What, Sir?
Pilate: Thwow him to the floor.
Centurion: Ah!

(He motions to the two Roman guards, who throw Brian to the ground.)

Pilate: Now, what is your name, Jew?
Brian: Brian.
Pilate: Bwian, eh?
Brian: (trying to be helpful) No, *Brian*.

(The Centurion cuffs him.)

Pilate: The little wascal has thpiwit.
Centurion: Has what, sir?
Pilate: *THPIWIT*.
Centurion: Yes, he did, sir.
Pilate: No, no, thpiwit...bwavado...a touch of dewwing-do.
Centurion: (still not really understanding) Ah. About eleven, sir.
Pilate: (to Brian) So you dare to waid uth.
Brian: (rising to his feet) To what?
Pilate: Stwike him, centuwion, vewwy woughly.
Centurion: And throw him to the floor, Sir?
Pilate: What?
Centurion: THWOW him to the floor again, Sir?
Pilate: Oh, yeth. Thwow him to the floor.

(The Centurion knocks Brian hard on the side of the head again and the two guards throw him to the floor.)

Pilate: Now, Jewith wapscallion.
Brian: I'm not Jewish ... I'm a Roman!
Pilate: *WOMAN*?
Brian: No, *ROMAN*.

(But he's not quick enough to avoid another blow from the Centurion.)

Pilate: Tho, your father was a *WOMAN*. Who wath he?
Brian: (proudly) He was a centurion in the Jerusalem Garrison.
Pilate: Oh. What was his name?
Brian: Nortius Maximus.

(An involuntary titter arises from the Centurion.)

Pilate: Centuwion, do we have anyone of that name in the gawwison?
Centurion: Well...no, sir.
Pilate: You sound vewwy sure...have you checked?
Centurion: Well...no, sir. I think it's a joke, sir...like...Sillius Soddus, or...Biggus Dickus.
Pilate: What's so funny about Bigguth Dickuth?
Centurion: Well,...it's a...a joke name, sir.
Pilate: I have a vewwy gweat fwend in Wome called Bigguth Dickuth.

(Involuntary laughter from a nearby guard surprises Pilate.)

Pilate: Silence! What is all this insolence? You will find yourself in gladiator school vewwy quickly with wotten behaviour like that.

(The guard tries to stop giggling. Pilate turns away from him. He is angry.)

Brian: Can I go now sir...

(The Centurion strikes him.)

Pilate: Wait till Bigguth hears of this!

(The guard immediately breaks up again. Pilate turns on him.)

Pilate: Wight! Centuwion...take him away.
Centurion: Oh sir, he only....
Pilate: I want him fighting wabid wild animals within a week.
Centurion: Yes, sir.

(He starts to drag out the wretched guard. Brian notices that little attention is being paid to him.)

Pilate: I will not have my fwendth widiculed by the common tholdiewy.

(He walks slowly towards the other guards.)

Pilate: Now...anyone else feel like a little giggle when I mention my fwend-

(He goes right up to one of the guards.)

Biggus ... Dickus. He has a wife you know.

(The guards tense up.)

Called Incontinentia.

(The guards relax.)

Incontinentia Buttockth!

(The guards fall about laughing. Brian takes advantage of the chaos to slip away.)

Thilenth! I've had enough of this wowdy webel behaviour. Thtop it!

Greatest scene ever seen? Charly Chaplin's speech at the end of "The Dictator" => "I don't want to be a dictator..." I don't believe anything could come that could top this one.
Second on my list is from that thingy with the lambs, when Dr. Lecter is carried away and touches very lightly the fingers of Clarice Sterling. Woa, sends shivers down my spine everytime I see it.

Personally I really enjoy endings that make you go WWHHOOAA and shake your head because you didn't see it coming. A couple movies that come to mind are No Way Out with Kevin Costner and The Sixth Sense (this one made the hairs on the back of neck stand up immediately when I realized what happened). And I think to a slightly lesser degree, Shattered with Tom Berringer.

Favorite movie scenes:

Revolutionary Peasant scene from 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail'..."Now we see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed!"

Any of the battle scenes from Kurosawa's 'Ran'.

The final action sequence from Zhang Yimou's film 'Red Sorghum', if you haven't seen that film...I recommend it.

Taxi Driver...."Are you talkin' to me?"

The scene from 'Sudden Impact' that culminates in Clint Eastwood's line...."Go ahead, make my day!"

'A Fish Called Wanda'...Keven Kline's character Otto dangles Archie Leach, played by John Cleese out of a window...Cleese's apology is priceless:

"I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future."

In 'Amadeus', there is a scene in which Mozart is first introduced to the Emperor. Salieri creates a tune which the emperor plays upon Mozart's arrival. Following a very amusing dialogue between Mozart, the emperor, Salieri and several others, Mozart is challenged to play back the Salieri tune from memory. This whole scene is wonderful, as is the movie itself.

Finally, any of the scenes involving Gunnery Sergeant Hartman and Private Gomer Pyle from the movie 'Full Metal Jacket'. The final scene involving the deaths of the above-mentioned two characters is one of the most intense in film history.

Not the best scenes ever but certainly the funniest are the dinner table scenes from The Nutty Professor. (Eddie Murphy version)

Among my favorites are: Robert Mitchum's howl in "Night of the Hunter" when the kids escape him in the boat, Natalie Wood's breakdown in the tub in "Splendor in the Grass",the whole "slowly I turn" routine in the Stooges' "Gents Without Cents", Peck's death scene in "The Gunfighter",Wayne picking up Wood and the last glimpse of him before the door closes in "The Searchers", the crop duster chasing Cary Grant and the finale on Mount Rushmore in "North By Northwest" and the fiery finale of "White Heat". Classics all! tjoeb};>

Best scene in a movie? My vote would goes to when Jack Nicholson was trying to order toast in Five Easy Pieces.
My favorite is from the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy clicks her heels together and says, "There's no place like home." Gets the water works going every time I see it!
Another favorite is from the movie Born Free, when the Adamson's realize what they have done. Elsa was capable of living free, and able to take care of herself. Just hearing the music at the beginning of the movie also gets the water works going!
I'm a sucker for animal movies and happy endings!

Let's go from one end of the spectrum to the other:

Intense: The horses head in the bed in the "Godfather."

Funny: Eating beans while sitting around the campfire in "Blazing Saddles."

And for a real tear jerker how about the ending in "The Yearling."

-Last scene from The Usual Suspects. It was without equal.
-From Shrek: The scene where the princess is singing with the bird in the woods.
-From The Fifth Element: The opera and ensuing fight scene.
-From The Princess Bride: The scene just before Wesley reveals himself to Buttercup.
-From Indochine: The scene with the soldier and daughter in the boat, and it begins to rain. It is just so overwhelmingly beautiful!

Taxi Driver - Near the end when DeNiro goes in to kill all the pimps, oh man , I get chills when i think about him blow awy harvey keitel, walk in the building, and kill his workers. It may sound like a gruesome, plotless film, but it is a BRILLIANT movie.

There are so many great scenes, it's hard to imagine picking just one, but one of my favorites is the attempted suicide attempt in 'My Left Foot', it was so heartbreaking. I agree with the final scene in 'The Searchers', and the ending of 'No Way Out', the scene of the little girl in the red coat in 'Shindler's List'. gammab
