Does anyone else enjoy his books? I bought one because had a 3 for 2 sticker, then I got hooked and have read every book. My daughter who is very fussy about books also enjoyed reading them. I hav just order one from Amazon, apparently an unwanted gift so really cheap.

Just like you Sue I got hooked and have read all of his books. There is another author I became intrested in about the same time I discoverd Lee Child and his name is Brian Haig. Give him a try when you have the time.

I have a friend who's basically ... obsessed ... so I'm sure she'll get me hooked. I've read one of his books, didn' tget hooked, though.

Sort of crime come thrillers.

They all have the same main character, Jack Reacher known as Reacher. In the first book or two he is an American military policeman, then he leaves the army but doesn't become a PI or anything like that. All the books are in the solving of crimes, all feature a certain amount of violence, sounds dreadful but not when you read the books.

They are very well written, also quite a light read. My daughter found them great while she was waiting for me to have my OHS, distracting. She was keen enough to pinch the last one I bought, when I retrieved the previous one!

My husband likes them, and he is not really into the very dark, seriously violent, thrillers.
I've only read one, and I remember I was distracted by the silly machismo of the main character - for instance, he is being whisked off for an indefinate period by the Feds, and they give him time to pack a bag. He is such a tough guy that he doesn't bother, thus going without a toothbrush or change of underwear for quite some time. I found it hard to take a character like this seriously.

Now that I think about it - this was some time ago - I'm not sure I got that right. Does this sound familiar to any of you who have read the books?

Yes, he has no possessions, he buys new clothes every few days and throws away the old ones, he does have a toothbrush though, that is about all he has.

His father was a marine, he moved around the world from birth. Reacher went to West Point and joined the army, he then travelled all around the world until he left the army. He never really owned anything, and thinks of possessions as being a tie. He does tend to injure or kill quite a lot of people, but always the baddies.

Oh yes, I've stated a few times here that I just love these books. My husband and I read the second book a few years ago and when we were finished my husband mentioned that he thought it was a series and sure enough, when I looked up Lee Child, we were pleased to find he had a few Reacher books out. Very rarely do we buy hardcover books, we will wait for the paperback, but with these we buy them as soon as they hit the shelves. The good thing about these is that you don't have to read them in order for them to make sense, but it does help in some instances.

I discovered Lee Child about a year or so ago when my local library were selling-off books (10p was a fantastic investment). I have since bought and read all the Reacher novels I could get hold of. He is not a 'macho' hero in the vein of Mack Bolan or 'Bulldog' Drummond. The stories have some of the feel of the Dornford Yates 'Mansel' series of the inter-war years. In this case the hero does not always win, he is mistaken and sometimes even vulnerable. I like the fact that he is a manual labourer with no credit cards, car, house, partner etc or anything else to tie him to a place. I would love to see a film series with someone like Dolph Lundgren or Anthony Simcoe.

Regards,

Tin

I bought one to take on holiday with me. It was just a book that I knew wouldn't matter if I left it at the airport or something. He seems to have become be holiday author, I suppose it means I've been on holiday five times since, as I'm up to #6 now.
But will I be able to hold out till my next holiday? After all, Lee Child is quite good and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

I have read quite a few Child novels. Very good and seems to get better with each one. Jack Reacher is a movie hero in waiting..lol.
