This reminds me of Terry's old survey on the homepage, which is how he found the majority of members (of relevant ages) were graduates or college students, among other things. That had a fairly comprehensive selection of similar questions.

If that data is still around it'll be interesting to compare the new figures with what was found when there were a fraction of the numbers as we have now.

That is pretty interesting! The nationalities you'd expect to be different at different times of day with time zones and all but you'd figure this one would remain along the same lines through-out. So far (just out of interest to see if it changes) 60/40 Women over men and 41% are between 41-50.

Good thinking, Sue.

I knew there'd be more women, at least at first. That stat may not last!

Holy Creeky Joints, Batman --- so far I'm the only one over 70.

(actually I look like I'm 100 and feel like I'm 35. I sure am glad it isn't the other way around!)

Hmm, this is neat and it would be nice to see those stats if they are still around. It's also interesting for me to see that most people are my parents' age (but I guess I could have guessed that since I'm fairly young.)

I wasn't able to vote. When I submitted my vote I got a message "We already have a vote from this IP address." I presume that the "IP address" is that of my AOL server.

I got the same thing. I guess we can retry everytime we sign on and hope to get an IP nobody else has used to vote from. My problem is I seldom sign off.

***I just tried it again and it let me vote.

Technically, I'm 35 years old, but on my last birthday I officially went back 10 years, making me 25 years old. However, for the poll, I used my technical age.

I'm 42 and female, and must state how surprised I am to see both my agegroup and gender leading the poll. Most forums I'm active on are mostly males in their late teens/early 20s.

It probably helps that we actively discourage 'chatspeak' here and ask people to try to use correct capitalisation, and we don't tolerate any flaming or abusive posts. Most of our members want 'sensible' discussion and none of this 'I love so and so pop star' (excluding a certain 'elderly lady' who happens to have a ticket to see Eric Clapton in the new year ). That doesn't mean that we cannot have a laugh. Generally speaking we are a very friendly bunch of people.

That is one of the things I like about this forum, the absence of chat speak.

I am 'staff' on a couple of other sites, and have tried banning chat speak on both of them, but with a mostly young membership it is a losing battle.

Women almost double the amount of men :O

13 - 20 just 14%, thought it would have been higher.

Intersting numbers--I fall in the "major" group of the site age wise, but am part of the male minority. I thought for sure there was a stronger male slant of this site. Very surprised.

Well jarsma, if this site leaves the impression of being male slanted....maybe it goes to prove how 'loud' us, women, are
