I have heard many, many times that the rebel yell is a warcry that the southerner's used in the civil war that would cause the enemy to writhe in fear.

When I was in high school our mascot was Rebels. And in marching band we had a Rebel Yell that went like this "Gimme a yell, a yell, a good ol' fashioned yell and when we yell we yell like hell and this is what we yell: Our band our band our bandiago sandiago harcus farcus kiss our carcus when it's cold we wear our parkas Rebels Rebels Rebels HEY!!!!!"

That is a really terrific link, Agnes. Even though I am a lifelong southerner, I had never heard a real rebel yell and it sounded nothing like I imagined it would.

Wow, that was great. I had no idea that was what it sounded like either. However, when I played it, my dog, ClaraSue, went nuts. She jumped up and pawed at the computer where those "weird sounds" were coming from. It's times like that that I wish I knew what was going through her mind.
