I haven't been to a lot of places in the world, though I suppose I'm better traveled than a lot of folks from my neck of the woods. I loved Berlin, and Xel Ha, on the Yucutan peninsula, was enchanting. But I admit that my favorite place in the world, so far at least; the one place where if someone told me I could only ever visit one place ever again, that's what I'd choose, is Scenic Route 14 over the Big Horn Mountains from Sheridan to Cody. Oh sure, a little further West and you could take 14 all the way to Yellowstone, but it's that one beautiful section of mountains that holds my fancy.

I'm not sure that I could narrow it down to one place. I loved the highlands in Scotland (only slightly more than I loved England, Wales and Ireland - although the Giant's Causeway in Ireland was pretty spectacular). The Canadian Rockies have taken my breath away a few times, but Newfoundland (at the other side of the country) is pretty amazing too. This summer I absolutely fell in love with Alaska.
Hmmm, the theme definitely seems to be mountains, which aren't to be found in my part of the world.

I've never set foot outside Australia, and my favorite place here would have to be Coolum beach on the sunshine coast of Queensland. Spent an easter there many years ago, and it was just beautiful. Don't know what it is like now however, there are probably high rises everywhere, but it was lovely at the time.
Favorite place I'd like to visit some day is Scotland. Have always been drawn to the place for some reason.

I must agree with you on that one, it is an absolutely beautiful place. This might seem out of the ordinary, but Whyalla in South Australia really captivated me. Just the scenery and bushland up there made me speechless. Talking out of Australia though i must say a holiday to Fiji last year with my family. The whole place is just magical.

I have never been abroad, but some of my favorite states (besides where I live) are Colorado and Kentucky.

I have travelled a fair amount, then at my age I guess that isn't a surprise. Many places are beautiful or interesting for different reasons. Some for scenery, some for buildings, so much to see and enjoy.
Different types of scenery cannot really be compared, a beach in Puerto Rico or on the East African coast, they cannot be compared with the Lake District in England, mountains in California or Switzerland. The are all are beautiful in their own way. I wouldn't like to choose a favourite.
Then we have buildings and museums (yes I know they are buildings, but I mean the exhibits). The Hermitage in St Petersburg, and Peterhof, fabulous museums. Venice is a whole different ballgame, where can one start to sing its praises? Wandering about in the old walled city of Jerusalem, I don't recommend a day when there is fighting, that can be a bit scary, but it is wonderful to walk along the narrow streets and think back a couple of thousand years.
I haven't, as yet, travelled to the Far East, whether I will make the journey remains to be seen. The shopping is apparently to die for!

I think it would have to be the place I spent 22 summers, the Dartington estate in Devon. If you do an image search on Dartington Hall or similar you'll see many views I grew up with, and flickr has many more including two I scanned in. It's located in the bend in a river, centred round a mediaeval banqueting hall, and also has some of the best modernist houses in the world as they were not restricted from building them as it is a private estate. I haven't been back since 1991 but just saw a bunch of pictures from this summer and it hasn't changed at all. It takes half a day to get there and it's very hard to get anywhere to stay in season, but I'll make it back somehow.
The nicest bit is the end of the road (it can't go any further due to the river, which is called Aller Park. It was a junior school but closed around 1980 and was derelict for many years. That's where most of the white buildings are and woods which extend as far as the river down a very steep hill, surrounded by fields with cows and bulls (careful before you go in which they are...). If anyone's been there you'll know exactly what I mean.

Duluth Minnesota US. Coeur D'Alene Idaho US. The Gateway Arch in St Louis Mo US, it is the most incredible sculpture in the world 630feet tall in stainless steel.
Forty years ago I stayed at a hotel with a room looking Westward over Lake Geneva that was incredible it even had a huge copper bathtub in the private bath. The mountains holding in the lake had waterfalls and evergreen forests. WOW!!!
My bed. I can turn my head to look out on my neighborhood park and its lake. In the summer the ducks and geese make noise at night. In the winter there is ice skating.

That's a very hard one. I have traveled quite extensively as well. I am partial to mountains and deserts so my list of favorites would have to include the Canadian Rockies - Banff and Jasper areas.
The American southwest - Moab area (Utah), much of Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
Europe? The Lakes District, Scottish highlands, Venice, Innsbruck, southern France and the Amalfi Coast (Italy).
Those are just a start. All have very warm memories for me.

hi all my most favorite place of all my favorite places is yosemite (place where i spent some marvelous summers and a winter or two). one of my favorite photos of it is by picqero of my team. i have always loved the coast highway number one from washington state, oregon and most of the state of california (taught a one room school near bixby creek bridge [palo colorado canyon] near carmel and big sur. another spot in california that has most pleasant memories was my first teaching job in grass lake, siskiyou county above weed and mount shasta, my one-room school overlooked that mountain and it was near lots of pine trees and many wild animals and birds and had dry crunchy snow. well, i had better quit with that memory lest i write a book here. i am sure your beautiful memories are as rich as warm and and as delightful as mine. what a joy to recall!

If you went from Toronto to Niagara Falls (or vice versa) you pretty much drove right past my house, depending on when you were there. In our last house (which we moved out of 2 1/2 years ago) we could see the highway you would have taken from our backyard. This house isn't quite as close, but it's not too far either!
