Hi, The Duke and patches, welcome to the FT Forums. We are very glad you have joined us and I am sure you will enjoy yourselves here.

The Duke, I think the movie you are trying to think of is "Terms Of Endearment". That one is definitely a bona fide great chick flick.

I'm not a "chick flick" kinda girl. But, I love Practical Magic. I've seen it at least 30 times and I never get tired of it.

I not sure if you can consider Addicted to Love by Meg Ryan and Matthew Brodrick a "chick flick". But i just love that movie. Had a fun time watching it. Also like While you were sleeping and Notting Hill.

I'm aghast that only one person mentioned "Fried Green Tomatoes"...the best chick flick of all time!

I agree also that Bull Durham has to be considered a cross gender type flick...a baseball flick and a chick flick at the same time, nirvana!

I'm with you on Fried Green Tomatoes. I can't believe no one's mentioned Say Anything, the best of John Cusack's early work. I also go with Ever After. I've watched it so many times, and doubt I'll ever tire of it. I must also mention The Truth About Cats and Dogs, simply because Ben Chaplin is so cute!

I'm with you on this one. Every time I see the scene with him holding up the boom box,I cry. One of my favorite songs is "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel because of that movie.

I'm not much of a chick flick gal myself, but I do like a few, such as:

Titanic
Notting Hill
Little Women
A League of their Own
Thelma and Louise (even though I haven't seen all of it)

I agree with most of the movies already mentioned but what about that great chick flick "Chocolat" with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. That was a great story with a difference. If you haven't seen it yet try to get a copy and watch it. I'm sure you'll want to add it to your list.

Now I don't know about ya'll, but I always thought chick flicks were supposed to be terrible movies - these are fine films that I've listed, IMO!

If by "chick flick" we mean a film about a remarkable woman, I nominate "Out of Africa" with Meryl Streep. The movie suffers from lack of a strong story line, but is great nonetheless as a portrayal of an adventurous woman who lived out her dream. Streep's assistant on location tells an interesting story of a running game they played with each other, based on the difficulty of determining what the film was "about". They would leave notes for each other, saying "'Out of Africa' is a movie about_______", and then fill in the blank. Streep once filled in the blank by saying, "'Out of Africa' is about a woman whose lover is more beautiful than she was." I personally agree with Pauline Kael, who once wrote that Streep's slightly oversized nose elevated her from the realm of the merely pretty into that of the truly beautiful.

You all mentioned some great movies that made me think, oh yeah, I loved that movie! Some of my favorites are Terms of Endearment, Never Been Kissed, The Wedding Singer, Beaches, Grease and While You Were Sleeping.

Hate to be a spoil sport people, but oh how I hate that term. If there was a feature film about the life of Lorena Bobbit, that would be my favorite!!!
Ouch!
That's just this person's opinion, so please don't take it to heart!

Among those already named, here are a few more.

1. Pretty in Pink
2. The Gift
3. What Dreams May Come
4. Duets
5. Dirty Dancing
6. Moonlight & Valentino
7. Proof of Life
8. City of Angels
There is also a movie that is on my mind (a recent one) but for the life of me I cannot think of it. I remember telling my boyfriend, "Good movie, huh? Not bad for a chick flick!" This is driving me nuts!!!

As soon as I remember it, I will definitely post it!
I know these weren't so much "Chick Flicks" but I felt they had to have a mention! Remember the Titans & The Lion King! I have also heard that "America's Sweethearts" was also a good movie.

I guess it all depends on what one thinks of as a Chick Flick.

If its a film that would be considered more appealing to women than men then:
Dirty Dancing
French Kiss

If its well crafted but with the traditionally female theme of love then:
When Harry Met Sally

If its a film portraying a strong woman and her struggle then:
Angelas Ashes

I don't know the true defination of a chick flick but now and then a movie will come on tv and I must drop everything and watch...
-The Scarlet Letter
-The King and I
-Imitation of Life
-Pretty in Pink
-The First Wives Club
-Peggy Sue got Married
-Sixteen Candles
-Say Anything
-Ghost
-My Girl
-Now and Then
-Beaches
-Never Been Kissed
-Fried Green Tomatoes
-Something About Mary
-Lady and The Tramp
-and that movie where the led builds a baseball field in his corn field, "If you build it, they will come." I don't remember its name.

I think that is most of it.

Oh, come on! Out of all the "chick flicks" you've come up with, which I admit are some pretty good ones, I don't think anyone has mentioned The Joy Luck Club. That movie always brings me to tears. That one would be number one on my list, with Steel Magnolias a close second. Another good crying movie, not a "chick flick" per se, is Dancer in the Dark. I just saw it recently and it's become one of my favorite films of all time. If you like stories about strong-willed women, this one is for you.

Hey ya'll!
As you all know, I've already posted my fave chick flicks on the first page, but now i have a new one. "Serendipity" (-John Cusack, Kate Beckinsale-). Those of you who have seen it know how awesome it is. "On The Line" has an outstanding chance of being better. Too bad it was pushed back from the 19th to the 26th.

I'm not sure if this classifies as a chick flick, but I loved Armageddon. I cry everytime I watch it. Ever After is my favorite movie of all time. I absolutely cannot stand to watch My Best Friend's Wedding. I have seen it once and I can't watch it again. I cried and cried and cried after that movie went off. I just know that is what will happen to me. It's just too depressing.
