IE7 is out of the out of beta stage now. The finished product can be downloaded from here (XP only). It will install via Windows Update at a later date for those who prefer to wait. Unfortunately, a security flaw rated as 'less critical' by Secunia has been written about already (click here). Nonetheless, it is much different from IE6 and is said to have better overall security.

Fast or slow? I must say that I have always found Netscape to be much faster tha IE. I don't think I will rush to download the newer version.

I may wait until the version gets downloaded, as I have not had any problems with IE6.

I have installed IE7. It looks OK and works well but it won't take the place of Firefox for me. Firefox is more versatile and has all those useful extensions available. Here's a screenshot of how IE7 looks (depending on how it's set up):

I installed IE7 but now they've got a special version for Yahoo users. I'll tell you how it works.

Why do you prefer IE7 to other browsers?

Now now how can you say that it is better than IE6? If I am not wrong, the first flaws (or more politely "issues which require security patches, updates) for IE 6 came around 3-4 months after it's release.

IE7 has gone better already....

I haven't used IE7 enough to express a personal opinion on it. That's why I wrote 'and is said to have better overall security' rather than 'it has better overall security'. If you read about IE7's security then it does look to be a better browser in this respect. However, you're right. No matter what the features are, there can always be flaws.

This isn't the case with only IE7. It seems no matter what the browser, there are always vulnerabilities that arise from time to time. A bug on Firefox's Password Manager has recently been written about for instance.

I do think it's the case that some of these flaws (no matter what the browser) can be difficult to fall foul of in everyday browsing. It usually takes a certain set of circumstances for them to have any effect. Although flaws have been numerous in Firefox, I can't say I've ever suffered because of them. I've never done, in everyday usage, exactly what is necessary for a flaw to harm me or my computer. Could this also be the case with Internet Explorer 6 or 7?

Windows Update downloaded IE7 a few days ago. I had recently been having problems with IE6 (it kept needing to close down), so I was happy to give this new version a shot.

So far, so good. It took some getting used to, in terms of the icons and buttons, and I'm still not sure how to use all the tab features, but I guess I'll learn in time. The zoom feature is a neat addition.

At first, the pages loaded very slowly and this possibly seemed due to the phishing filter taking a long time to scan a page. I already have a phishing feature with my Symantic Internet Security 2007, so I turned off the IE7 phishing filter and that seemed to solve that problem. Even when I turned it back on, the slow loading problem did not recur.

Visually, I can't say it is any great shakes in terms of appearance. I think I preferred the format and style of IE6.

But, so far, it hasn't needed to shut down, and I haven't encountered any unusual problems.

I did run a spyware scan the day after I downloaded IE7 and that turned up an astronomical number of tracking cookies, (about 505 of them, compared to what I usually find when I run such a scan, which is generally only 35-45 of them). I have no idea whether this was related to the IE7 download or to some other factor.

I had the initial slow page loading problem too. It seemed to take time to learn how to open a web page . Maybe there's some configuration going on in the background when it's first fired up. Whatever the reason, it wasn't a long-lasting problem and it hasn't done it since.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I was almost forced to upgrade with a windows update and whatever poking I've done it refuses to connect to the internet. I switched to Firefox and left it to rot, so a few days later now Firefox is doing exactly the same thing since it updated. Maybe it's catching.
Now I'm using a small box in my Kazaa browser as nothing else will work. I even uninstalled IE7, used IE6 for a day which was fine until the next day when IE7 returned. Should I just roll back, refuse all upgrades and leave the other browsers as they appear beyond repair to me?

That happened to me Satguru I upgraded to IE7 and it was fine for an hour or so then it kept telling me I wasn't connected, so I kept on connecting and then horrors of horrors it wouldn't let me connect. I had to do yet another systems restore to get things back to normal

Two people near me just got it, one crashed half his sites with the phishing filter and the other more or less did what ours did. I've had to go back to IE6 and ignore the update icon otherwise it's no internet for me.
You'd think they'd test these things better before releasing them to the public, my IE6 and earlier never broke once and now even my Firefox followed suit on its last update and has now left my system. It was also slower than IE6 and scrolling was at snail's pace. Sometimes older is better.

I'm still using IE6. I believe TW had put a link in somewhere before the forced upgrade to IE7 to stop the download. Seems like I made a good choice by not going to IE7!

I had problems immmediately after downloading IE7. I simply could not access the net, no matter what I tried. I simply did what others have done; system restore and forget about the wretched thing.

I always have problems whenever I upgrade or upload a new gadget, the last fiasco happened after I had uploaded some new microsoftware I got one of their pop ups telling my I needed to run their pc cleaning system as all the adult sites I was supposedly visiting were being tracked. If I clicked on the X it still took me to their software page, the only way I could get rid of it was by logging off. Only for it to appear the next time I logged on, if it wasn't for systems restore I would have torn all my hair out in frustration.
