I have posted this before but a long time ago.
Many years ago I was on the PTA committee at my daughter's school and we were organising a fete with a circus theme. At the meeting it was discussed that the stallholders might dress up in the theme.
On the morning of the fete we went to set everything up for the afternoon and I made a point of going to all the other women and asking if they were going to dress up, they replied yes.
I went home, put on a pair of trousers belonging to a short fat neighbour, wore rainbow striped braces (suspenders), striped socks. My hair was sprayed bright blue and teased on end and I put on a hairband with glitter ball on the end of wires. On my face I used facepaints to make a clown face.
I had to drive to the school like it and got some strange stares at traffic lights.
Arrived at the school and not one other parent was dressed up, they all looked VERY smart. When I asked if they were 'dressing up' they thought I meant in good smart clothes rather than in jeans and t-shirts!

Whoops - I am not sure if my daughter has forgiven me yet.
