I like them too, only number 1 gives me a problem. Some people have been here for many years but only post if there is a problem perhaps with QL, they might not be a new poster, in fact might have posted years ago but not a regular poster.

How about:

1. 1 - 99 = Member
2. 100 - 199 = Climber

Thinking about it, I suppose 'Member - Regular - Addict' are titles that exist on various other forums, so not very original. Would that matter? I don't think I've seen the other titles anywhere.

I think that with the 'addict' taken out, TW's work well.
I addressed this a long time ago here, (the addiction thing) but I think that for various reasons, people participate more at some times than others. Sometimes the reasons are unemployment, or over employment, family stress, birth of a child, retirement, or other factors and we participate at a different rate at that time than others. I racked up more posts when this was one of the only places where I read and wrote English for a few years. Or I'd play chain games. Or I'd use them for my FT roles.

I'd de-emphasize the ones that had slightly negative connotations because, not everyone likes writing posts as much as the next person and as you say, some people have been around for ages and just don't enjoy writing as much as others.
Some people read a lot posts and don't feel compelled to reply to them.
As our forums, and in fact, our entire site, encourages the use of easy to read English without chatspeak etc..I guess I'd tone down the references to talking or chattering. Posting in a forum here requires thought, reading, reflecting then composing a reply. If you want to encourage posts that communicate, then, I guess the titles have to reflect that. I use several sites professionally and personally for various reasons, and even our chat boards don't reflect the type of things you normally encounter out there.

As I'm in the eight category and will be there for the rest of my FT days, I think prolific might be one of the terms applicable to forum participation. As my life has changed, I've been a different sort of participant at different times. Even when I don't post much, I read what others have to say. Another point is that many of us in that category served a role on the site and a chunk of the number of posts are for website matters.
Anything that refers to communicating and participating puts this in a positive light.

I'd really avoid making a person feel singled out for posting more or less than anyone else, because the quality of the posts is what is more important than the quantity.

Sue's are very elegant. I guess the 'Novitiate' one which reminds me of playing "Mother superior" and 'Sister inferior' with my sister and might be a little surprising to someone who'd been playing quizzes or creating them for several years and suddenly found that tag on them.
I do like the Participant and Enthusiast as they're very positive sounding and might be substituted for TW's addict or aholic.
I don't wish to downplay the whole thing about how someone could go overboard on FT, but, just keep things positive. I know the site fills a need for people and that will ebb and flow over time.

Connoisseur isn't bad at all in this light.

How about taking TW's scale and tranposing a few of Sue's?

1. 1 - 99 = New Poster
2. 100 - 199 = Participant
3. 200 - 499 = Enthusiast
4. 500 - 999 = Partisan
5. 1000 - 1999 = Resident
6. 2000 - 4999 = Mainstay
7. 5000 - 9999 = Prolific
8. 10000 - 19999 = Connoisseur
9. 20000 + = Star Poster

Please note, I got the poshest sounding one for the eights!

These are just my reflections on the idea which I think is fun. I just want to encourage participation, be it passive, reading posts, or more active, posting things.

It should be something fun and positive, it doesn't really need to be taken all that seriously . . . just as long as the titles all have positive connotations I suppose . . . but I wouldn't fancy being called a Resident, makes it sound (to me) like I'm back in the Hospital system!

That first category is the main problem one, as I have pointed out, a person could either be a new member or quite of ten it could be a person who has been here for many years but rarely posts, so new doesn' describe his or her well.

I have just looked through the list of members and can find several examples of what I mean, Pixiecat1 joined in November 2005, last posted on 19th October but falls well under the 50 total posts, paper_aero is another, not new and last posted a couple of days ago.

It seems that there is always one thing that will trip one up on something, and I will have to agree with you, Sue. That first group will be a bear to come up with a suitable name.

How about something like 'a quieter model' for the first category?

These are some suggestions so please vote. You can still make some suggestions, it isn't closed yet.

You will notice that some of the titles are duplicated, this is as they might be suitable in more than one group.

Am I to be a Motormouth for the rest of time ? Can I maybe graduate to Old Museum Relic or something?
[Just kidding, Sue ...these titles are pretty cool for sure!]

Good thing I've slowed down in my posts and don't allow myself the pleasure of chain games, I'll be a Star Poster for the rest of my days.

Bruyere,

Quote:

Please don't be so restrictive with yourself. Why not allow little harmless pleasures?
For me "Chain Games" are a real pleasure - there are smart, funny and quick-witted people in there and the games cover many subjects/hobbies. I've learned many new things while playing them - well, this is only the humble opinion of someone out of your "English Native" world.

Sue, I'm taking a very serious approach to this - I already graduated
Multiloquent sounds like an Academic title.

So now our Chain Games Chief is an "Old Museum Relic"? Hmmm...somehow it doesn't seem to suit him as a person, but it surely does suit his fine sense of humour and inimitable style
