In response to a post about 'Swordfish'. It got me wondering why the action film genre has sucked so much of late. Is it because I have gotten older and moved out of the demographic? Or has the advent of CGI made everyone lazy with plot because they can create such interesting (but empty) eye candy?
Im not saying that ALL action movies have sucked but what I think they have lost is any sort of suspense, in return for the bigger stunt, or the bigger CGI explosion, or the soundtrack/videogame tie-in. What do you think?

I did not see Swordfish, but I am a huge fan of action films. As you can see by my signature,I believe the Die Hard series are the greatest films of all time.I do think that in the last few years great (or even good)action films have been few and far between.Last winter I saw the Arnold film "The 6th Day"and it made me want to puke!

I have to agree
story and plot have been sacrificed to bigger and better effects...it's a sad day when the effects overshadow the plot and characters...cause in the end...that's what carries a film the characters that we get involved with (metaphorically speaking).

I thought that the Mummy Returns was fun.
but I console myself with old flicks. "North by Northwest"

BTW, speaking of Die Hard...great trilogy...I actually work in Nakatomi Plaza...it's the Fox Plaza Building on Avenue of the Stars in West LA (Century City)

they filmed the first Die Hard here about half a year before construction on the building was completed
